Ok lets just admit the truth, no way did this event happen. And to the OP good for you and your friends who would laugh at 630rwhp, I have a friend with a low 8 second foxbody, a friend of a friend with a 7 second supra (google Boost Logic if you doubt me), and my dad's cobra which makes hundreds of horsepower more than me at the wheel.

Some of you guys are a little quick to call BS. I happen to know Dave is a stand up guy and would never post this story if it didn't happen.
If you don't believe his car would beat a GTO in this scenario, that's fine, but I'd be more inclined to assume it was because it wasn't a legitimate race (IE neither car downshifted or something), rather than calling Dave a liar.

Dave has no reason to lie. The pedaling thing isnt from loss of traction, but coming off the floor andf back down again with the gas pedal. Whats spo hard to believe? A 420rwhp fbody in 5th gear cant pull a 300rwhp GTO in 4th gear... better rear gearing, more power, less weight... seems like simple math to me.

We just don't know what was going on driving-wise in that GTO. Could very easily have been in the wrong gear.
Also, he said 70-140. Once he got to 120ish, it makes sense that he'd pull hard, but 70 in 5th gear....pedaling none-the-less just to toy with him......come on. You can't be that ignorant.

Alright, I've thought about it and I'll just state it this way:
I have a mild H/C setup with 4.10s AND an MN12 GTO trans with the better (shorter) 5th gear.
My dad has a bone stock 2004 (5.7) GTO M6.
If we both punched it from 70mph, basically the top of my 3rd gear, but I was in fifth and he was in the appropriate gear, I would get smashed until I hit about 120 or so, but he'd probably already be past 120 so he'd still be pulling. AND I have the shorter fifth. AND that's with me punching it, not "pedaling" and "toying" with him.
Granted your H/C probably makes quite a bit more than mine, but you don't have the 5th gear advantage that I do, so that helps even things out. Something was up with this race.
I'll stop ranting now.
