I feel down, I lost to a 2001 Mustang GT
Hi everyone, well I have a 2000 Z28 with an automatic, and well I was side by side with a 2001 GT as we turned onto this outer road, and as soon as we both were going straight, we both got on it, and I have never been passed like this GT past me, he flew by me like I was standing still, and actually passed me good enough to get infront of my car and then pulled away more, so I was shocked, but then the guy pulled into a carwash so I followed him and the first thing I said is, don't tell me this is stock, and he replies no I have a blower on it, he did not say any other mods he had, but wow!! if he has around 400 hp or so with that blower then I guess a 50 or 60 hp difference is a lot more than what I ever thought, but anyway I just wanted some peoples thoughts on this, what I have done on mine and what you people out there think I would need to do in order to run with something like that, minus a supercharger, can't afford that right now, but I have some good cash still I can put into this, but here what I have done now, and sorry for the long message, Whisper Air Lid, Magnaflow Exhaust, Hypertech Programmer, High Flow Bellows, SLP MAF Sensor, JBA Shorty Headers, Richmond 3.73 gears, Auburn Pro Series Diff, and a T/A cover, and like I say this was not from a dead stop, we were doing 20 or 25 mph at the time, which my car does not do nearly as good from that speed like it does from a dead stop, but anyway I am down about it.

Hi thanks for the reply, ohh? a cam? never thought about that one, hmmm what all is involved with doing that? I don't really do this work myself, I have a mechanic do it all for me, but what would something like that cost you think? with everything I would need for the complete install? and what kind of power do you get out of something like that? thanks for the input.

honestly if that guy said it was stock I would of probably sold the car and went back to driving a 4x4, lol but he was cool and was very honest about it.

Re: I feel down, I lost to a 2001 Mustang GT
well all I am saying before all you Mustang people stroke out on me, is that a stock Mustang GT has what 260 hp? or something like that, and the Z28 has 305, and I had around 2500.00 in parts put on my car, and that GT was stock and beat me like he beat me, I would of given up, but since it was not stock and had a blower I am still down of course but have to expect that, it's comparing apples and oranges comparing a blown car to a car that's all motor, or racing a car with NOS on it, that's why they have different race classes.

it also kills me that a lot of these Mustang owners with these Cobras act like they did something when they beat a stock Z28 or SS, lets be for real, I hope you can be a stock Z28 or SS, you do have a blower on the car after all.

Up to 50hp (the gap you want to fill).
Figure an even grand (at least) for a cam swap, parts and labor included. Labor rates vary intensely.
Cam: $300-400
Valve Springs: $160
Pushrods: $110
Misc gaskets/crank bolt: $40
Labor: X-factor. Anywhere between $500 to $800
There is this guy running around Texas in a van/truck doing mobile installs for an awesome price.
Anyhow good luck!
Just so you don't feel bad, today I was merging right to pull off the X-pressway and saw a yellow M3 w/ stickers all over it charging up through traffic. He must have been doin' 70. I was doing 45. So, I timed his arrival 'till he got up to my car, and stupid me, sometimes thinking too highly of my car, decided to drop into 2nd and give it a go (w/ a 25mph deficit), thinking I had a chance to gain on him. Well, we just ran for a few seconds till hitting traffic, I mearly managed to stay on his rear quarterpanel. He went off, needling dangerously through taffic like a madman. No kill.
I vented my frustrations later on a poor fartcan Civic rice driver at a stoplight who glanced over to me. I started throwin' revs at him. On green we moved forward, I shifted into 2nd, and pulled a smokey burnout through the intersection (in 2nd!) to "show him" "damn ricer". I felt like a total moron afterwards . We (I) simply have to learn to take these things lightly, as you said. This is all a game.

hi SouthFL, thank you for the info, I will really look into that, sounds like a good thing to have done, and that's quite a bit of power for that price too. Yeah you do have to take it lightly, your right about that! Thanks for the info!

If you don't know much about cars, forums are a good place to learn. Cam/heads will get you as fast as a blown 4.6 GT or LT1. You guys have awesome motors, you don't even need a blower to be faster than a Z06.

Hi camaro Kid, thanks for the info, yes you can learn a lot about cars on here, just like the cam I had mentioned to me earlier, I love these cars but I am no mechanic I admit, so I have the work done for me, but it seems the cam is a great thing to have done on the LS1 motor.

go with a better exhaust and some custom tunning. I would say long tubes, x-pipe, true dual system. Something like Ls1 edit. Those things with a cam would make a pretty big difference.

yeah dude try the converter or the cam but make sure you get a trans cooler if you go with the converter. As for the cam go with a 224 comp cam i heard you can put that on without tunning i seen it done a couple times with no probs.
