Default Cammed SS vs Turbo SS

Played with a turbo SS on county rd 42 in Burnsville, MN at 9:30 on Monday night. It's a badass ride! Said he had it on the lowest boost, so I was able to hang with him. We ran from about 40-100 and 15-100 or so, wasn't watching the speedo since there were stop lights coming. Basically neck and neck the whole way and he never pulled an inch on me, I thought maybe I pulled just the slightest bit, but hard to tell. I had about a 1/4 car on him but I may have jumped first. I should have been slaughtered but then he said he was at around 400rwhp, which I am too. Different state plates but lives in the area. Cool guy, had a good time but wasn't able to talk much cuz I had to get home.

So does about 400rwhp sound about right on an LS1 turbo? Not sure if he had bolt ons. Should I have been able to hang with him like I did? I am thinking he would have pulled me in the triple digits! I must have more power under the curve.

STS turbo on lowest boost? Sounds like 400rwhp. Otherwise IDK.

Nice race. Stellar performance by the low boost STS kit. It's not bad enough that he has an STS kit, it has to have the boost turned all the way down, as well? j/k

Lol yeah I'm putting down about 387rwhp, no heads, tr224 cam. I thought I did pretty well to stay in front of him. Even if he had the boost turned way down, it evened it up or else I would have had some trouble. I would have no shame losing to a full boosted turbo SS, and he was pretty shocked I hung with him I think, he asked if I had heads. So I'm sure he went home and cranked up the boost!

Yeah me too. After our first run where I hung in front just a little we got side by side again and he yelled, "I'm running the lowest boost!!!" He said that the cars seem very even.

haha... yea ok

OP, if lowest boost setting is 5psi, on a stock motor, 400rwhp is probably right... but i honestly have no idea what the lowest boost setting is... i'm not much of an STS guy...

but i'm on low boost!!

Nice Runs!!!

^I think it depends where the boost comes from and how well the power adder is matched to the setup. I bet a positive displacement blower would make more power sooner...

Thanks, just wanted to know if that was pretty usual since I don't know much about how much power turbo's make on low boost. Or if he just wasn't shifting well or what. But according to most it seems right on.

Now let's not assume 100% it's an STS system. It was just a suggestion.
