Actually...

I have, in my Jeep. Not only at idle, but also in 1st gear, low range.

Of course it was a "crawl" race so the "winner" is the last person across the line..

I've done better.

I beat a Z06 while my car on a tow truck and I was walking towards a vending machine.

When I had my '00 Z28, I used to race guys using the cruise control.
That was reserved for ricers and dumbasses in trucks.

When me and a friend of mine had both of our vehicles broken down (my 15-sec mazda and his 11-sec 240) we both went to a local car rental place, rented 2 hondas (a 1993 civic HB and 1994 Civic Sedan) and went straight to the local dragstrip.

We would get them up to 40mph as fast as we could (pretty darn slow) then hit cruise control and hold 40 all the way down the track. We finished in the semi's in brackets that day, with me at a 25.32 on a 25.29 dial, and him a little faster with a 24.22 on a 24.20 dial. Either way, slow as ****, but funny.

That is why bracket racing is absolutely the gayest drag racing there is. I can't even watch it.
