Default Kills and Deaths, 350z

My buddy's vette is in the shop getting an ORX put on, so his friend let him use his 350Z for the past couple of days. We decided to run them, for ***** and giggles.

2004 350z full intake/exhaust, 6 speed, awesome driver

My car...1999 Trans Am A4...Bone stock except for a lid...

Race 1...from a 40 start, had to stop at 90 due to a red light...3 beeps, i had to wait for my auto to downshift...by the time it shifted, he pulled a half car and it stayed that way.

Race 2...from a 45 start, 3 beeps, i had to wait for the downshift again...he pulls 1 car and by 105 i was creeping up, shut down at 115 with him a half car ahead.

Race 3...from a 50 start...3 beeps...hit it late, he jumps out a half car...and I pull even to 85mph and then we had to slow due to traffic....

Race 4...from a dig...light turns green, I spin and he wheel hops...i jumped out to about 1-1.5 cars by 75 and I was slowly creeping further away.

Race 5...from a 55 start...3 beeps...he jumps out a half a car...i reel him in by 100 and put a fender by 110...

overall, that 350z moved out pretty well...m6 and weight advantage definitely helped him...This is only my 3rd set of races since I got the car, and apparently anywhere between 40-50 I am in a dead zone. My reaction time was terrible. I would always hit it late and then have to wait for the auto to downshift, by that point, he would jump out and then I would have to reel him in. I think my cats are clogged...they are the stockers with 84k miles and I am throwing an SES light for the cats and O2 sensors. Overall it was a fun night...time to mod up...

Sounds like you had fun I put a good beating on 350z's so far. I raced 2 new one's and pulled them as well. Seems your running a little slow there and clogged cats will definately do that.

i hate how slow my auto shifts, its almost ridiculous, haha...oh well, by august, I'll have LTs, ORY, at least a 3500 stall, ported tb, LS6 intake, and some suspension stuff and drag radials...should be decent for rolls because I'm gonna shatter the 10 bolt from a dig, haha...

also, can someone tell me the good spots for rolls in a 3.23 gear car? My last car had 2.73s and I knew all the dead spots and good spots...I'm not used to this one yet...

Never race from a 30-40 mph roll with a A4. The rpm's are too low in 2nd gear and the tranny won't downshift. Good spots from a roll:

20-29
55-65

From a stop would be your biggest advantage.

good kill man. i havent had the chance to race any 350z yet (they never wanna... ) but if it was a manual totally different story. thats where i decided to get a manual instead of auto. on rolls their just to bad. but off the line their great.

good kill, but first off don't be afraid to put trans in the gear your going to start off in. if your rolling below 27 mph (savely), put it in 1st and as soon as you hit it bump it up to 3 or Drive. if you going at a 50 roll put it in 2nd 3 honks go and bump it into 3 and hold it until race is over. from a dig i put it in 3rd and keep it there, if i hit the limiter in 3rd i'm going way to fast, it kinda lets me know back off. thats my .02 it hasn't fail me yet

gears helps this out really well + stall. it still falls but recovers well

thanks for the tips guys...i'm gonna have to try that shifting thing...and yea from a dig my car was easily pulling away...I wanted an M6 when I was car shopping, but I got a sweet deal on this car. I'm finishing fire science and EMT school this upcoming year, and as soon as I get my career, the T/A will become a weekend toy with a big stall. I want to pick up a nice diesel pickup or a Jeep SRT-8 as a DD...

I, too, hit it about half a beep to one beep early when driving an auto (depending on how fast the car downshifts) so that right on or after the third beep, it takes off. I had it times perfectly in my Formula.

Sounds like some great races, BTW!

yea, it was a damn fun night...he gets his vette back today, and I am going to race it...He is going to destroy me, but it will be all in good fun...I've raced it before when is cats were clogged and I beat it to 80 from a dig because he spun and then from 80-140 i was ahead by 2 and still pulling away, but his clogged cats were destroying his top end. I sat in the car with him when he tried doing a top speed run with the clogged cats, when we hit 110-120 it was like we were trying to push a wall out of the way...

Ouch, if the car's running right and he can drive even decently, he should walk all over you.

That said, go from a dig and hope he screws up!

Don't ever race from 40 in an auto. 30 is a good spot for 2.73's but not 3.23's. 40 sucks *** with either, that's the WORST SPOT to roll race an auto.

Dig, 25, 60 are your best rolls with 3:23's.

Dan
