Sting of defeat - Loss to SRT8
#42
My almost next car, though not fast enough. Not to mention, it will cost exactly $150 MORE payment per month to drive the slower Vette, $600 vs $450.

Clutch/rear replacement thread. You have to remove the intake/full exhaust/and whole rear to change the clutch on a C6....
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...swap+clutch+c6
The strength, ease of 130-135mph 9-10 sec slips (with the new Whipples and KB's) and everyday fixability is really what makes the Cobra king. You ever look at the price of LT's for a C6? Try $1,100-1,600. No thank you.

I thought the same thing until last night, really. I had my C6 picked out and everything. Financing ready and off to Texas to get it. Here it is. An 06 Z51, 500rwhp and totally maxed out without going whole new shortblock. I would still need a 100+shot to satisfy me, then the rear will explode and I will be up to my ears in a 12+ hr clutch replacement, read Nine ***** thread about it below.

Picture says a 1000 words.
Here is a step by step of clutch replacement. Scary unless you own a shop.
http://www.c5frc.com/DIY/ClutchInstall/index.htm C5 here but C6 is even a bit worse I hear.

Hey honestly, I had the 06 above already done and approved. I am scared to death to have the Vette and break it. I NEVER had a major issue with my Cobra after the SRA swap and I cant deny how much I will abuse my street car. Im looking for a 3.4 Whipple w/100 shot so It CANT be a C6. If I was loaded with cash, I would do it. Im not loaded with cash though.
A 3.4 whipple and a 100 shot would just be insane. Would that even be safe on the street? I know most street guys are swapping the pulley for less PSI

I would still run it at 20lbs on the street. I think thats the 3.5 upper, stock lower.
Im a little concerned about the 3.4 since it seems to be snapping the cranks more than ever. I could go Gen 2 Whipple @ 25lbs, with the modified inlet, mono blade tb and 100 shot but it would need a good tire for the street. I know when I sold my old car, it was getting "slow" to me and the new owner has been 133 with it so I want something a bit better even if I only use the nitrous for fun....or really fast rolls, 90+ mph. Lol.

Butt dynos mean nothing anyway - an automatic with 3 streetable gears (3rd up to 120+mph) and 6200 rpm power peak is going to feel entirely different than any 3400-3500lb Fbody.

Not even close. More like the LS2 GTO and CTS-V. What do they run at your track? What is the elevation there, btw?

Not even close? - the LS1 and LS2 GTO are diff, (stock for stock) by a couple of tenths thats close to begin with if ya ask me. As for your question about what a stock LS2 GTO runs locally heres a timeslip from a run between my TA and a brand new one in Hobbs NM at between 85 and 95 degree temps.

Yea, i cant remember the exact altitude of the track there but its over 3,000ft i do believe. The times guys post in these threads from places with a decent DA dont even apply to what youll realistically see out here. Oh well, at least nature applies its rules evenly to everyone. Id be curious to see just how much faster id run at a track with nicer DA.

BTW i didnt realize that the SRT8 charger was a 3 spd. That sucks! The balance between gas mileage and acceleration becomes even more delicate when ya start reducing # of gears. Sorry I need at least 4.
Man, i still chuckle remembering the look of dissapointment on that salesmans face as me and my buddy conversed in agreement as to the lack of whiplash affect i was expecting. "Smooth you say - maybe just a little too smooth. My girls like it rough ya know, somethin they can feel in the backside. Damn dude that woulda been like a 3k commission check alone huh?" lmfao

Well then i stand corrected - def misinterpetation, sorry. It was pretty silky! However i was concentrating on my SOTP meter more than counting gears in the (unfortunately) short amount of time i had to drive it.

It's more than a couple of tenths - that's not even statistically significant and both are hard to launch well. More importantly, it's about 4mph in trap speed.

My buddys srt8 was dead even with my auto bolt on ws6 from a roll. accept at a 40 since my car is **** from that and the chargers 40 is the very top of 1st so he yanked me really bad. From a 30 i killed him and from a 50 we were dead even with me taking it by maybe a fender. Would love to own one as a DD one day.

I beat a new srt8 300 pretty easy from a dig and 40 mph roll. it was my wifes cousin and i only raced because of all the crap he talked about a caddy cant beat the (SRT8) so the stock ctsv vs the stock srt8 the V walked it every time.

Since you already started a thread about this, I have to ask - was he shifting himself? Did he have ESP fully off?
