Default 02 Z28 vs 06 GTO

ok is was minding my own business this morning on my way to work and as i get onto 270n i usually get in the left two lanes and set cruise but not today! I see this orange car with two hood scoops come flyin up behind me turn out to be a LS2 GTO! We immediatly get on it but to much traffic to do a side by side. I look down down one time at the speedo and see 140 so i let off and chill for a sec.

This is were it counts: we got some space to do a quick side by side run but the *** didnt even look over or nothin so i got behind him and he drops to 3rd from 70 and takes off. i hate highway racing but floored in drive it down shifted to third and he got about a car and a half bout the time the car went into 4th(135) i got the half car back. backed off at 140 and he did as well. the *** shook his head and chukkled and got off the next exit.

Cliffnotes: 06 GTO LS2 M6 beats my 02 Z28 LS1 A4 by a car from 70- 140

PS- i hate highway racing alot and i was extra stupid to do it in morning traffic and prob would not do that in traffic again!

I think you hung pretty well. Could you tell if he was A4 or M6? The M6 will pull up top, 70 is a great spot for them to roll from if it's manual. I'm guessing he was probably pretty stock.

I raced 2 LS2 GTOs in one week and got em both by about a car... One was from 0-100mph and the other was from the on ramp to about 140mph... He probably only won because he was ahead of you and got the jump... At least both my GTO's acknowledged that we raced... I hate it when people dont at least give a head nod or a thumbs up...

my buddy has an 06 GTO A4 with a Tune and I would put less than half a length on him in the 1/4...

he would yank a 1.8 ~ 1.9 60ft (to my 2.0 ~ 2.1s) and I would make up the distance and then some. Definately a close race between an LS2 GTO and LS1 F-Body.

not because he has better gearing, more power, less drag coefficient or anything.

70 is my favorite racing speed with my m6 goat. Had some pretty good exotic kills from 70-150 on the interstates of Texas

While all of those are advantages you left out the reason why that doesn't add up to 100% victory...
[more weight (which negates the power advantage), torque management, and heat soak]

ehh, the minor weight disadvantage, i think is more than taken care of with those 3 things.

considering both cars (ls2 gto specifically) can trap ~108 stock proves that point.

id be willing to bet that the gto was stock, too.

Confused here... the fact that they trap the same as my ride proves exactly what I said.

If it was more than taken care of any M6 LS2 GTO would be able to smoke me not tie me.

Good run, a M6 would of walked him, IMO.

i think we can agree m6 > a4 on a 70-140 jaunt. from a dig it probably would be different for the op considering his mods. but to think the gto is slower because of the weight, heat soak, and tm (though not as much of a problem for an m6) is where i was making my point.

8100hammer on ls1gto.com ran a 12.6 at 111 with a tune only a4, so the potential of the ls2 is there, but most drivers cant make it happen and most people wont accept it.

i absolutly hate highway pulls but maybe the outcome would have been diffrent it was in my sweet spot 20mph rolls. i got to get the trans built and a torque converter badly!

You were just confusing what I was saying is all. I didn't mean it was slower than the F-Body, I meant it was slower than it 'could/would/should' be due to those things.
