Default Beat a Mach 1 when going home from the track

So i was at the track the other day and. there was a real clean lookin blue mach 1. beautiful car. he was running in the 14's. didnt think those would run that slow. ive seen one run 13.5. so as i was leaving i was behind him on the highway. his car sounded real good (ive always liked the way mustangs sound). all i know was that he had exhaust and prolly headers. i dont know. my mods are lt headers, ory, lm2, pulley, lid, and tb. i was running pretty bad that night. best of the night was 13.35. but mostly 13.7 13.8. couldnt get off the line good. so he rolls down his window and slows down. i get next to him and i know he wants to race. i drop to 3rd going about 60-65 i didnt look at the speedo. he honks 3 times and we go. instantly i start pullin on him and by the time i let off im about 3 car lengths ahead. slow down cruise for a minute next to each other and gives me a thumbs up. then we go it again. same thing about 3 lengths. im thinking damn i thought mach 1s were faster than that! are they? it was about an 03 style. what do you guys think? it was really nice tho. how are they different from a gt?

It would take all the bolt ons for one to outrun your car I'd think. But both of you should run a good bit faster at the track. What is the elevation? Your car should be well into the 12's I'd say and his car should be a mid 13 second car at worst.

yeah ive seen one run 13.5 and sounded stock. so i just assumed this guy couldnt hook at the line cuz i couldnt either. but yeah kinda surprised. pretty close to sea level. i was shootin for 12's since i put the pulley on. before the pulley i ran a 13.26. but i just couldnt get a good launch. was pretty disappointed. you think maybe my phb made it worse? need some slicks! but then i would need a rear...*sigh*

the mach1's are usually pretty quick from a dig as oppose to a roll race, but get gears in a Mach1 and watch out, they really wake up then!

The most obvious difference would be the 4v heads as opposed to the 2v heads... they breathe about a million times better. They also have 3.55s as opposed to the 3.27s in the GTs from that generation.

Ah don't worry about it man you will have those nights. If the track doesn't get prepped like it should then the powers of the roman gods won't help you to run better that night. Your car definately has some 12.7 passes in it. What was your MPH for the night? Also a phb would have nothing to do with how the car hooks up. I run one on my car and my car hooks good. Sounds to me like the people working at the track were slacking off! I know I know, sounds crazy but sometimes they don't do their job.

Thats funny! Man that has to suck to be the Mach 1 owner. Oh well, if you don't have enough to hang with the other guy then you just don't have enough! Time for him to take off his intake and port it along with a spacer!

Yea, so he can cut that 3 car lengths down to 2 1/2. I'm just kidding. Those Mach's are not to be underestimated with a good driver behind the wheel. Esp when they have a few bolt'ons and a set of gears.

HAHAH, I just read this guys side of the story. Dude you raced a novice with a 240 pound passenger. Good kill, but that was not a race it was a slaughter.

And your stories match up so its good to see honest drivers.

still on page 1? good kill, sounds about right to me. don't assume he had headers they aren't as common as a mod on the mach.

Nice kill.

Just read the other guys post about the race.
240lb passenger definitely did not help him lol.

You would have won anyways though.

Good kill. He started in 4th no good from that speed. Know your and the enemy better.

You still would have even if he started in the proper gear.

what is a phb?? i cant see to figure some of this lingo out i am new to newer cars as hotrods. my last couple were a 67 ss and a 88 5.0<--that car sucked!! im sure with a fully built motor and the right selection of mods it would have been better.
