Evo vs camaro z28
i just raced an evo, my z28 is bone stock with a flowmaster 80 series.
from third gear like a 50 mph roll he was about half a car ahead. does this sound right.

I don't really think this is the right section for this(Street Racing and Kill Stories may'be). Also, you didn't say what year your car is.

Unless something is very wrong with your car or you are at some high altitude a stock evo shouldn't pull you from a roll at all. (In fact I ran a cammed/intake only evo here a while back from a 55mph roll and had several lengths before I shut down at 150mph)
It really depends on the mods he had...

Starting off in your power band would help. At 50mph, drop second. Hell, I had a 06 civic SI start to pull on me, because I did the same thing. Again, what is your altitude? If at my level (4600), or higher, I could see an EVO inching you out. Try to race him again, this time get in your power band, and see what happens. Also try to find out what mods he has.

Yeah, starting in third gear at 50mph probably cost you a lot more than half a car. You should have been in second. I would go out and hold out each gear, 1st through 3rd, to about 4800-5000 RPM and take note of the speed you're going at each gear. Much under that speed and you'll want to grab a lower gear, much higher and you'll want to go higher, but you'll see what I'm saying when you do it. Keep it in the powerband, even if the gear is pretty short. It's all about knowing what gear to hit when roll racing. If you bog, the other guy is gonna take off and you'll need a significant hp advantage over him to catch up.

3rd gear from a roll you should have raped him. Bad. They are only 230WHP in stock form and have no top end power at all.
Either he was heavily modded or something is wrong with your car.

i dont think anything is wrong with my car, when i was in 3rd i punched it and went from 50 to 100mph pretty fast, his car wasnt that loud i think stock exhaust all i heard was his turbo, i was at 3rd gear 3300rpm, if i was at 2nd i would have been at lke 4500 i dont like starting out in such high rpm, i thought i was gonna beat him, but considering the price tag i payed 4700, he payed 30k he should win lol, it was only half a car anyway. and if i was in 2nd i would deff have won then proly.

you started out in 3rd gear at 3300 rpm
that shouldn't even be considered racing
im sure if you would have started in 2nd the race would have ended much more in your favor
with the mods i have done to my LT1 it runs very close with unmodded ls1 cars and i have pulled EVO's on top at highway speeds on more than one occasion

Wanna hear something crazy? With my 4.10s and GTO trans, I can't downshift to second unless I'm going 45 or under. But yeah, stock LS1 Fbody should be second up to 60 without issue. That definitely lost the OP the race.
