Default K member swap questions

Im seriously looking into a K member for my Trans am. Right now im building it, so theres no motor in the car right now, and i figured it would probably be alllot easier to change now than later. Approx how hard / long is it to change the K member while the motors outof the car? Since i dont know whats involved can i just do it with some big jack stands or what?

Thanks in advance for the help..

When you get ready to chose a k member give us some consideration. Our k members are 24.5lbs lighter than stock and can be used with your stock a arms or our tubular versions. They are great for a daily driver, drag car, road race application, or a combination of all of the above. The install of the k member is a 2-3 hour job depending on your situation. We have a k member for LT1,LS1 or old style small block or big block applications. We also offer one without motor mounts for use with a motor plate. The LS1 and small block/big block versions are also available in a turbo style for extra clearance. Here is a link.

Your going to need to support the body of the car with stands and an engine hoist to hold up the motor. Im sure there are several other ways to do it. Thats going to depend on what you have available to you.

Well I have no motor in the car right now so thats why I was looking to take advantage of the situation. With the motor out I dont see why it should be too bad but I dont wanto get myself into something I cant finish.

Without the motor I would imagine it being a breeze.

Exotic Performance has a quick write up (no pics) on how to do it

Without the motor you are talking about a pretty easy job. You just need to raise the car as high as you can get it, and of course make sure it is secure with some jack stands. ect. ect. Then just remove all of the bolts holding the stock one up and take that sucker down. Now im curious how you got the motor out without dropping the K-Member. Personally i would wait for your motor to be ready to go back in. Mock up the entire front end and then put the motor back in from under the body like everyone does.
