Default How much lower is a ss???

Just like the title states, I bought a pro-kit to put on but now I'm worried that I will be draggin my duals around everywhere. So, I'm now looking for some just regular ss springs. Can anyone tell me how much it will set my car down as compared to the regular z28 springs??

Thanks,
ryan

If I am not mistaken it wont change the ride height at all.

Still higher than lowering springs, but SSs come 1inch lower than factory z28s.

I have an SS and a Z28. Pictures are for proof I guess.
They are both identical in ride height. Both have stock springs.

Well, how about hotchkiss springs? I heard they were good and not quite as low as the pro-kits. Anyone had luck with them??

Not sure why the are same in height. When I got mine SLP gave me all the information and differences between the Z28 and SS and one of them is the suspension is 1" lower than Z28.

Straight from factory SS and z28 have the same springs guys, no diff. Some people have been led to believe the SS had different suspension, I've been hearing the same rumor since they intro'd the SS in '96

You will only get 1" lowered springs if you have the SLP level II package, IIRC.

So other than that SS springs = Z28 springs and to be more factual, its really just 3/4" lower. lol I compared my stock suspension to my buddy's firehawk suspension which has SLP level II. Its lower 3/4" compared to my car.

To the OP, you can buy a set of Konis shocks 4/4 from Sam, set them to lower perch and you'll get lowered 3/4" inch and wouldn't have to worry about compromising ride quality and dragging your true duals.

Nope you're wrong. Depending on certain years, some SS's have stock z28 springs. Some had 1LE suspension, which according to this http://www.angelfire.com/my/fastcar/suspension.html the 1LE is also at stock height.. just different springrates

The only thing spring that gave the car a lower stance was the SLP springs, that was somewhat of an option/package you could order

My 1LE springs that came stock on my 99 SS have been 1/4" higher all around than Z28's and newer SS's. It is true that up until early 2000 the SS came with 1LE shocks and springs.

I'm just looking for some type of spring thats not to expensive thats going to help wheel gap with my 17's, not hurt ride quality to bad, and most of all not drag my exhaust off! I live in the country and roads are not the best around here. My driveway is a damn cliff.. lol. Whats a good spring that should give me what I'm looking for guys??

Koni's on the lower perch up front, heater hose mod in the rear, with stock springs all around. That's the only way to drop the car about 1/2 inch that I know of. You will also have the added benefit of great shocks as well. Other than that you will be looking to get a 1" drop spring (I liked hotchkis). If you can deal with the extra .2 drop then Strano's are great. Still though, the Koni's sound like a great way for you to go. Also with a drop spring you will need new shocks anyway so keep that in mind (and the fact that Koni's are the recommended shocks for lowering springs).
