anyone here trimmed up the air dam under the front of the car? I think that's what it's called anyways. it's always hitting because I leave my shocks in the front on the softest setting most of the time.

Dont mean to highjack but I got a thread in the drag race section with know luck. Im looking to cut the front just enough to get me an inch lower and I want to just remove the isolator in the rear to get 3/4". Will this "hurt" my 60ft? And how much to I need to cut off the fronts to drop an inch? And lastley do I cut the top or bottom of the spring? Thanks in advance!

you can't do that to the front, the spring not as wide on the ends...I think anyways. on the back you cut the top of the spring. you would have to buy new springs for the front. what is your setup?

Thumbs up

If you cut the fronts, cut from the bottom anywhere from 1/2 - 1 coil, I wouldn't cut any more than 1/2 coil at a time!

Actually I wouldn't cut any coils myself, I would buy lowering springs.

It makes it stiffer for less weight transfer so how does this help your 60' / drag time???????

How do they get stiffer when there cut? Is it because they have a progressive spring rate? Like stated before I only want an inch drop, and I dont wanna put lowering springs on because of the high spring rate they come with. Please explain?????

they don't get stiffer. there is less material there so they become softer, which is good for traction. but normally in the front of the car you want a long spring that is soft so on a launch it helps raise the front for a longer range. The reason I cut mine instead of buying lowering springs is because the cut springs are *probably* softer than lowering springs plus I also got the benefit of lowering the instant center and it was free. I used a chop saw to cut mine and ended up cutting a full coil off.

Well I am running a 9" and slicks, I just dont wanna hurt my 60ft. Lowering springs will raise spring rate alot thats what im trying to avoid. So to drop it an inch you guys think half a coil will do it?

i think it will take more than that but i didn't measure mine before and after. just remember it will drop a little more after you drive around for a while. it's so easy to do just cut half a spring and if you don't like it the next day, cut some more. with the right saw it can be done in 30 mins.

have you personally had cut springs? my car rides fine and i will find out soon for sure but traction should be better now that it's lowered.

Wrong.
When you cut a spring the spring rate goes UP.

Like has already been said you raised the spring rate and basically screwed it up by cutting the spring. For just driving around its probably just fine still. Maybe not preferable, but not horrendous either. But to say that cutting the rear springs would improve traction over stock or a proper lowering spring is misinformation at best. Think about how a spring works.

Im so confused, If it goes up a few pounds thats ok but I dont want it to go up dramaticly. The info I find on spring rates on lowering springs look like there 500 lb spring rates and I dont want that. I will probably cut enough to drop an inch. If I dont like that I will put my buddys stock springs on then.

There is a lot you can do about this.
If you want to know some rates for cut stock springs PM JasonWW:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=28037
Now if you don't like the cut rates you can buy drag coilovers like QA1's and be able to adjust ride height with their given springs (and it will not effect the rate).
