Default How to improove stock torque arm mount?

The clamshell stock piece is kind of worn out on my car, the rubber is pretty much gone. Is there a better way to mount the factory torque arm, like to the body instead of transmission? If not, who sells a new poly bushing to replace my stock rubber one? I dont want to spend money on a tubular torque arm, I cant warrant spending that kind of money for something I personally will see so little gain from.

Hello,

The solution to this would be a torque arm relocation kit. They take the stock stock torque arm and mount it in the same location but off the transmission. You use a new poly mount with it and would never have trouble again. Here is the link to the item for your vehicle, please take a look- www.umiperformance.com/2207

We also have the new Energy Suspension torque arm bushings in stock for $14.99... just give us a call.

Hope that helps!

That does look like a nice set-up. The only thing I don't like is it still bolts to the tail shaft of the transmission meaning the tail shaft could still crack under a load. And since that new bracket is very heavy duty it may put more stress on the tail shaft and crack it sooner since it won't flex like the factory bracket.

Just my thoughts,
Ryan

does anyone know who makes the torque arm that mounts to the car, instead of the tailshaft or the crossmember? And if so, is it any good?

Hello,

We do offer a torque arm for the 3rd generation that mounts off the transmission... we have them for the T5, 700R4, TH350 and TH400. I posted a few links below... the only difference between all the torque arms is the different transmissions and they come with or with out a drive shaft loop. I also posted an installed picture below... more installation pictures can be found in the links as well.

Thanks, but I want one that tunnel mounted like offered on the 4th gen. I have one mounted to the trans xmember. I dont care for it though, and I wanted to switch to a xmember that raises on the sides for the exhaust to run through. Love your products though, and the great support UMI gives us, thanks.

Hi, Ryan, can this relocation kit be used with a future rear-end upgrade to a Midwest fabricated 9-inch with the transmission-mounted torque arm? Also, will there be a 60 foot time improvement by upgrading a worn factory torque arm bushing with a polyurethane one? Would there be any resulting suspension bind from the polyurethane bushing? Thanks in advance for the info.

Hello,

Thanks for the question.

No I don't think this will work with the Midwest set-up... from what I know is his rear ends come with there own torque arm and mount in one package. It will work with a Moser or Strange rear end. Also there can be 60' changes as well... the torque arm relocation bracket has instant center adjustment built into it. Changing the instant center can change how the vehicle reacts... we do recommend an adjustable torque arm when doing this though.

The polyurethane torque arm bushings will not bind. The torque arm is designed to slide in and out of the bushing so no binding will occur.

If I can help anymore please ask. Thank you!
Ryan
