Default pinion angle guage slightly off?

i bought a pinion angle guage when i bought my adjustable torque arm. i noticed that the magnet is not 100% flush with the bottom of the guage. it is close but it sits probably 1/2-1 degree off. i was wondering where the actual needle is based off of, the base of the whole guage or the magnet? i hope this all makes sense...

The needle is supposed to be based off of the base. If the magnet is not set in the base correctly it will throw the readings off. If you use your angle finder you will need to compensate for the magnet being off.

You really have to watch those angle finders.
I went through a whole rack of them at Home
Depot and every stinkin' one had the needle
binding at some angle or other. The one I got
from BMR way back when, is fine.

You could spin it 180 degrees and take the
average of the two readings, this will null angular
offsets if the mechanism is otherwise clean.

jimmy, that is a whole different story. i noticed the exact same thing you are talking about with my guage. it came with the torque arm (for an additional cost) and it does bind a little. it kind of annoyed me but i figured there wasn't much i could do about it.
