i need new pads and rotors, i'm looking on ebay and see lots of cross drilled and slotted rotors with semi metallic pads for around $250 plus shipping. are they good rotors or are they ****. don't want to spend a lot on brakes. so what else is there.

Not to bash or anything but from what Ive heard r1's arent that great...but then again I couldnt really be any harder on my brakes. I got some relatively cheap cross drilled and slotted rotors with some hawk hps pads a year ago and i just cracked my two front rotors. But if you dont plan on road racing or getting your brakes to the point of boiling the fluid you should really have that big of a problem

WS6 Store's $169 slotted/drilled rotors (all 4) and Hawk HPS pads. Very happy.
Here's the link to the rotors:

brakes
i put on napa cross driled and slotted rotors with their ceramix pads stops on a dime and if you have any problems you can go to your local napa store for a warenty. or for a little less money you can buy their ultra premium rotors and adaptive one pads which is what i have in the rear, plus they have a money back rebate when you buy the ultra premium rotors and adaptive one pads. so realy unless you are buying wilwood or ssbc ect. brakes their is no real performance difference!

I've tried fancy rotors...and never been happy with how much I paid versus what they gained me. Brembo blanks are nice rotors, ATE's seemed nice but warped WAY WAY WAY too quickly.
This time around (just did them 2 weeks ago) I'm running AutoZone rotors.
I ALWAYS run Hawk HPS pads. They're pretty agressive/hard on rotors, but they are great cold or hot. They're not for the typical driver though...they're agressive enough that you can tell they're there even when you're just driving normally, my uncle always says "dude I think your brakes are grinding"...he's used to OEM pads in everything he owns.

Sorry to hijack, but im in the same boat as OP.
Are new brakes/rotors easy enough to install by yourself? I dont have much exp with brakes but it would save me a good 80dollars on installation.
Edit: And DAMN thanks for the link to ws6store hps pads, everywhere else they are like 180

it's not too bad, it's a one man job. to me the hardest part is the studs, but i'm ungifted when it comes to patience. i'm about to do mine within the next month. i also was looking at the d/s rotors on ebay but found f/r's for 120 shipped. i'm so tempted to pull the trigger, but i know it's too good to be true.
