Default rear end is making a noise

So here is my problem when i drive my car or when i press on the gas it sounds normal but when i let go of the gas its starts making a whinning noise. first i thought it was the brakes until yesterday when i stoped and actually listened.

its making a rattaling (i cant spell) noise but not all the time, once in the while when its in a complete stop but also makes that whining sound when the car is moving but not accelerating.

doest that mean i need to get a new rear end or rebuild it.. if so, is it a simple rebuild??

thanks.

Rattling noise? Sounds like bearings maybe.

if the noise is coming from the rear, to be 100% sure jack the car up on stands and accelerate it and then have someone listen to where its coming from, it can also be your clutch whining and rattling. if you have a good mechanic he should be able to tell. its either wheel bearings or your clutch. I replaced my wheel bearings, now I have to do the clutch soon

yea its coming from the back when the tires just spin letting go of the gas its making that noise.

so you think it might be the bearings.
why the clutch thou?
