Default ?s About Shock Adjustment

On KYB Adjustable rear shocks is 8 the softest setting and 1 the firmest? Or is it the other way around? Do you just turn the dial anyway you want or do you have to turn it a certain way?

It is just a slow day. I have 3 different threads going with no replies. Be patient I am sure someone will chime in eventually. My shocks are on order so I am not sure how they adjust yet.
