Default Wheel stud issues!!!!

well I broke a couple wheel studs on the front passenger side. Well I hammered them out and bought some new studs, and can not get them in! I first tried hammering them in, then I tried putting a open end lugnut on it and impacting it, still nothing. So then I tried the big daddy breaker bar, and ended up breaking the stud, but it still wasnt seated all the way.. Any ideas?

also I measured the width of the old and new, they look to be the same.

the width of the splines are probably too large, they should have gone in by now....

Sounds like you got the wrong studs. When you got the new ones, did you take an old one with you for comparison?

no, I had a friend pick them up for me. Damn advance auto parts.. Yeah I figured tomorrow id take it somewhere to see if I could compare them.

I just compared a old one and new, and the splines look to be a little bit long on the new one, could that be an issue?

Well, if they almost go in all the way and then break off, I think you probably have your answer. Pretty much the only chain parts store where you'll find intelligent life is NAPA...and sometimes not there either.

^yeah, that probably is my problem, I didnt think about looking at the length of the splines and it does go in about half way.

Yeah dude those guys always screw up, its bullshit. Its their damn job to get it right and everytime I walk in there they have no clue what im talking about.
(pissed cuz I havent drove my car in a week just ready to get it back on the road)

i just installed ARP wheelstuds on all 4 corners today just for fun and they are longer, which will require open lugnuts but its worth it for the peace of mind knowing i can do whatever i want in this car and im not going to have a wheel fly off at 170mph hah and they are only like $50 for 20 of them...

You should have seen the deer in the headlights look I got a year ago when I went to AutoZone and asked if they had a dwell/tach. Needed it for tuning my tractor (1966 John Deere). I had to give him a 15 minute disertation on what dwell was, and why it was important.

Amazingly, they had one. Had been on the shelf so long that the clear plastic package had turned yellow.

The best way ive found is to either use a slide hammer or put an impact over the lugnut

Yeah if you are breaking them on the install they are probably wrong. Doesn't take all yhay much with an impact or even a breaker bar.

Actually, replacement studs break often when you try to "pull" them through. When I was starting off autoxing, I began breaking stock studs. I'd replace them with NAPA parts (they're kinda blue, huh?). I'd snap off every other one trying to pull it through. Then, after hammering the broken one out, I'd have to start over. I used to carry a dozen with me. I was breaking roughly 1-stud per month by autoxing on 17x11s and changing tires 2-3 times per month.

I went with ARP studs at some point. I've never had an issue. They're possibly the best thing I've done to the car. I NEVER have to worry about them. Put them on layaway. Put them on credit. Steal them. OK, don't steal them. But get them!!

I "pulled" mine through and never broke one. They were ARP's though.

Personally if it was me I wouldn't even consider putting stock bolts back if I had broken them once already.

Sorry - I meant replacement "stock" studs break when you pull them through.

Let me ask a question: if your stock camshaft broke, would you replace it with another stock one?
