Default Steering Rack Differences?

The rack is going bad on my car, I have been pricing them out and was wondering what the differences are between them.

There is apparently 2 different types for the V8.

One fits cars with the F41 RPO code, (Sport suspension)

The other fits cars with a FE2, Fe7, or FE9? RPO codes.

There is a $100 price difference between the F41 rack and the other, Does anybody have a solid answer on the reason??

My guess is maybe the sway bar has something to do with it? I checked into the pumps, and hoses. And as far as what I could figure out online the pumps and lines are all the same. There-by the fittings would be the same.

I have heard about the difference in price before as well.

I think the higher priced one has a quicker ratio, IIRC.

That would make sense, the cheaper version is said to be for "Stiff suspension package"

Ok, so I figured this out yesterday. My car is an FE2 car. I took my FE2 rack into the parts store and compared it to the cheaper priced F41 steering rack. The F41 rack has the same mounting positions and the same power steering hose fitting sizes, but where the steering column attaches is clocked more verticle than the FE2 rack. Due to this, the alternator will not have enough room to fit and the steering column knuckle wont hook up. Long story short, The F41 and FE2 racks are not interchangeable.

I need to replace mine I think, these units are not serviceable for a small leak by the boot?, other than that works great. Where else would you pick one other than the dealer??

Seeing as all the cars use the same accessory setup (alternator, ect) how does that work?? If the F41 rack won't clear the alternator on your car, it won't clear it on any 4th gen LS1 F-body.

The F41 rack can't be used to replace the FE2 rack, trust me, I know from first hand experience. The steering shaft will clear the alternator, after you smash the plastic on it, but it won't clear your exhaust manifolds...
