Tools to lower a vehicle... are they all needed? Front
- Metric sockets
- Metric wrenches
- 2 jack stands and floor jack
- 9/16" deep socket
- T50 Torx bit
- Spring Compressors
- Vise grip pliers
- White lithium grease
- Hammer, rubber mallet
- OPTIONAL: pickle fork with 4' breaker bar (read instructions below)
Rear
- Metric sockets
- 13/16" socket
- Metric wrenches
- 2 jack stands and floor jack
- T40 Torx bit (for 2000+ models)
- Vise grip pliers
- Flat head screwdriver
- Razor blade
What are the Torx bits? and are they needed? has anyone lowered an f-body with out using them?

It looks like that, and is also known as star drive. You will never be able to get the driver side spring/strut combo off without the correct torx, unless you manage to clamp the vise grips on it and spin it. If it has never been off before, that might be difficult.
Plus, that torx bolt is right under the master cylinder in the shock tower, so you may not be able to get a good grip with vise grips. IIRC the head of that bolt is rounded, so you may have to mangle it to get a good grasp.
