Default sudden highway vibration and wheel hop

I suddenly started getting a pretty bad vibration on the highway , really feel it from 60mph+
also noticed for the first time im getting bad wheel hop when I take off hard. (m6 trans)
im sure the two is related... im thinking u joints? i had the tires re balanced just in case, made no difference.
any other tips before I pull the DS for new u joints?
the car has 191k miles on it , pretty much all stock minus lowering w/eibachs and kyb agx's about 6 months ago.. but all this problem just started last month so I doubt its related.

Could you perhaps give a better description of the oscillations?

It still could be drivetrain related, however when one or more bushings and/or mounts are about to fail (or have already failed), its symptoms are usually subtle, yet of a higher frequency (almost like a low pitch ring or a "hum" of sorts).

If it's a slower vibration with a really hard thumping style, then it's usually down to the driveshaft as you mentioned.

How about the condition of the differential?

it starts to vibrate the whole car around 40mph, and by 60-65 its at its worst, it calms down a bit by 80, but its still there, the passenger seat shakes really bad! no noises... no hums.. just really bad like when you have warped rotors and coming to a stop.
engine rpm has no effect on it, neither does being in gear or not. applying brakes makes no difference either.

i have an energy suspension mount about a year old on my m6 trans. i do not notice my shifter bouncing around any in my center console so I doubt its broke but i will of coarse check anyways when i get under the car.

I had a similar problem in a non f-body and it ended up being the u-joints. They're cheap and pretty easy to replace.

I have a problem when I hit the skinny pedal on the right I hear a loud bang from the center of my car I think its my transmission doing something but it was redone about 4000 miles ago, could this be my transmission mount being loose?

probably RedLed..
when mine failed it only took a few thousand miles for the cheapo replacement from my local auto parts store to fail me, so in went an energy suspension piece.
its all good now

-Hey guys, I put new U joints in, and for the most part fixed 90% the vibration, I still have some though, what should I look at next?
1. I have balanced the wheels twice, at different shops.
2. I have new u joints in my driveshaft.
3. ?

I am thinking Rear LCA bushings?

hmm simple enough and yet I havnt thought of it..
Guess that will be my next mount to replace..
Do I need to drop the tail end of the transmission to remove the bolts of the clamp like I do on my thirdgen?

Hello
Yes just loosen up the trans cross-member and pull down the tail shaft. It will give you enough clearance then. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
Thanks

ok looks like my first mount was a misbox from ES or whatever..
ran across town to a real aftermarket car part dealer, grabbed the same part number, 3.1111g and it had the correct mount in it.
car is running again, and much better. vibration is like 95% gone and wheel hop is almost gone.. still a little there.. but none the less my torque arm bushing was shot and this helped tons!
thanks again guys.

Who wants to suggest what to tackle next for the little bit of wheel hop i still get and maybe a slight vibration i still see in the passenger seat?

TraviZ, I just wanted to say thanks for posting this up. I just bought a 97 Camaro SS a few weeks ago, and it has the exact vibrations you described. Since you are also at high mileage (I am at 225k), I decided to follow in your footsteps and start with ujoints. That definitely helped, but the vibrations didnt completely go away. Next on the list is the torque arm mount. Thanks for posting up your experience and results, and the part numbers as well!

your welcome, i hope it helps you as much as it did myself, make sure the rubber mount has the actual number '1034' stamped on it inside the 3.1111g box.
