ABS noisey and violent??!!

ABS noisey and violent??!! Ok, so I already did the search and coudn't come up with anything...and I know this might be a stupid quesiton but here goes.
I live in Colorado and have a 2001 WS6. Whenever the ABS engages it makes a loud sorta grinding noise and I can feel the pulsing from the brake pedal. The overall process is much more violent and loud than it is on my 1995 Z28. Is this right?? When the ABS engages it feels just like the ABS on my buddies Tahoe. The only reason I question this is because my 1995 Z28's ABS is smooth and pretty unoticable.....thanks in advance for any input.

Yes, it's a rather powerful pump there to move that fluid, and if you have TCS/ASR, it is split 4 way (normally only 3 way) Since it's not a common thing, not a lot of attention waa paid to NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness )and so it's pretty much all bolted to the body and all the "action" is transmitted thru the metal.
I don't know, but earlier ABS systems were just 4 wheel pulsing things, not computer controlled individual decelleration sensors...
If it is grinding and groaning when panic braking and the "low trac" comes on - it's normal.

I wouldn't call the ABS "violent" but it is noticable. If you hear groans/grinding/squeals, you might want to check things out.
