how wide of a tire would do this, anything less than a 275?

Go with a narrower tire doesn't guarantee it still won't happen, it just less likely to happen since tire width isn't the only factor involved.

I think this thread is awesome. My TA never tracked at all, then I had my tires rotated and it started doing it with 275's all four. I had them rotated again and it stopped. hahaha My car is always aligned properly and I have just come to the conclusion that it is something very tiny that can cause that.

If suspension is in good working order I vote tires.... had 235/35x19 Nangang on front when tread got thin they became down right scary. Put 245/40x19 Nitto Invo's now is great!

This is true. I drive a MR2 that has 185/50/14 tires or some crap like that and it follows grooves like its on rails thanks to a worn out front end.

My car use to do this all the time before I upgraded my suspension last week. I think it was mainly due to blown rear shocks. I ended up buy all new Bilstein shocks, new Hotchkis springs, panhard bar, lca and a nice alignment. It tracks straight now with minimal pull on these uneven Texas back roads. I'm also running 275s all the way around.

I need to look into my front end come spring...

Mine tracks so poorly that I thought I blew a tire the other day.

Every fourth-gen I've had/have does this. My front tires were worn on the SS for a while; I put some better tires on it and it immediately started tracking the road again. I don't mind it; it's these stupid NC roads, lol.

If you think about it.. put the tire flat on a slightly banked surface. One side of the tire wants to be off the ground slightly. If the tire is turned a little bit, it can get to the point where it's completely flat on the ground. I'm not positive, but I'm guessing this is what causes the issue. The tire wants to be flat

I have 315 tires on the front but this car did this with stock wheels and tires.

Live with this or sell the car and buy a VW.

It's the alignment more than the tires. You can have 275's or whatever but if the toe is off or the caster is too low, it will tramline. Have it aligned and go with either zero toe or 1/8" toe in to compensate for crowned roads. Reduce the camber to almost -0.5 or 0 and it will improve. It's not a performance type of alignment but will make it easier to drive. Have it aligned back to factory types specs and it should get better by a lot.
There is always a trade off between performance and ease of driving. Normally, you can't have both in an F-body.
