Default Wheel Hub Options

Depending on the alignment shop verdict I may have to replace the drivers side wheel hub. I don't want to get shafted by GM's $449.36 price so I am looking for other options. Advance auto has NTP at $90, National Hub Assembly at $163 and autozone has a timken at $182. What do you guys suggest? Any other options I should consider?

Do a search for SKF BR930186. You'll come up with an odd looking website address for a supplier in NJ. They're "top shelf" bearing hubs, and $142.

(I work at Advance part-time, and I recently looked at the the National hubs, as I think I also have one going bad. They are Korean made, I wouldn't go there if it was my car...)

They have a one year guarantee on them. I'm curious how many years have you had yours?

I agree that the Timken bearings, at least in the past, have been quality, American made bearings. Today, I'd check their country of origin first. Secondly, while I know that SKF is not an American bearing, I do know that their stuff is top shelf, and has been for many years. SKF hubs can be gotten from the supplier I hinted at (obviuosly not a site sponsor, so I dropped a broad hint) for $40 less than the Timken that the OP looked at. I don't see any reason not to go with the SKF..

Timken and SKF are big names and I know they supply OEM's.

In the end, if you pick a known name, you should be fine. Bearings aren't rocket science. They are just ball bearings in a race. Really, the only variable that can distinguish manufacturers is the type of metal used in the bearings.

"Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. Heyya! It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads, and I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State."

Rock Auto is who alerted me to the SKF hub. When I was doing a little research 2 weeks ago, Rock listed the SKFs, but said "only 2 left". However, they were priced at something like $175. That sent me on a search, and I came across the industrial supplier in NJ, who listed the SKFs for $142.

I don't know what to do for my car at this point. I was getting an intermittant "ABS INOP" light on the dash. Had a friend hook up a scanner, and we got a reading that the LF speed sensor wasn't functioning propely.

I didn't want to just throw money at the car, hoping to fix it, so I first pulled both front wheels and checked the bearings...they're tight, (OE 75,000 miles) and I unplugged both sensors, hit both sides of the connectors with WD40, blew out the connectors with compressed air, and drove the car for several days without incident. The cold breezes have hit my area, and snow is predicted to hit the area within the next few days, so I took the car for one last ride yesterday....

Timken is the supplier for AC Delco Fbody hubs. The numbers and markings on the hubs are exactly the same between the two.

AC Delco is now separate from GM. Their parts do not necessarily match what the dealer sells as "GM" parts. (I learned this the hard way...)

I don't know what the agreement is between GM and its dealers, regarding "replacement parts", however, I work part time for Advance Auto parts, and we provide a lot of the loacal dealers with parts. It seems that none of them want to tie up $$$ in parts inventories anymore, so they use the local stores like us as their warehouse...

Called today, the SKF carries a 3 year warranty. Given the longer warranty than the others and the low price of $142 I will go with these depending on the alignment shop verdict later this week.

Thank you leadfoot4 for bringing this option to my attention.
