Question Tunnel braces?

Are these things worth the money? I have the Spohn brace on my car (bought for $30 on Ebay), but it hangs lower than my hedders. Can I take this thing off and leave it off? What is it's main function? I am thinking that if I need one I will probably get the BMR one because it doesn't hang as low at all. I just lowered my car 1" and now that brace scrapes on everything. Please help me figure out if I should keep it, or ditch it.

Its worth less..... Just added weight. I had mine off for 2 years now, since it didn't fit with my aftermarket exhaust.

I yanked mine too. I had the BMR one on an unlowered car and it scraped every speed bump ever. DO NOT GET IT, IT IS A WASTE OF $$!

If you're really insistant on trying one, I'll sell you mine for half price. It's got a nasty scrape or two at the lowest point. Email me dope@twelveinch.com

Oh yeah, if you want to get one, get the Lakewood Driveshaft Loop. It doubles as a decent brace and does not hang down AT ALL. In fact, I would say it's higher than the factory brace. It actually goes over the top of the exhaust, not under.

Big pic. I used it with stock exhaust and with FLPs and it wasn't even close to ever banging.

Most people either ditch the stock piece or install a DSL in the same location. I have yet to hear a good theory as to why you should keep it if its interfering with your exhaust, etc.

Get a good hard driveshaft loop. If you really want one, I'll give you mine for the shipping. It has no paint.

Yea I would recommend just getting the drive shaft loop.

I spohn brace hangs lower because it is made to work with all aftermarket exhaust systems. If you do decide to keep a Tunnel brace on I wouldnt go with the BMR, it is straight and wont clear with most exhaust systems.

Useless.... If you want one just get a drive shaft loop, or make your own...

I think it is a good idea to have something there rather then nothing. If you are going to spend the money prob best to just get the loop.

As for the tunnel brace being extra weight, I don't think that whole 5lbs is going to hurt you any. If that is the case, just don't eat at Mcdonalds before you hit the track

Just go with a Spohn torque arm with the drive shaft loop mounted on the front. It will take the place of the tunnel brace. You can't go wrong with the Spohn stuff

I don't think they would be the best for a lowered car. All you can do is totally ellimanate the tunnel brace. The aftermarket braces have to be bent like that to clear aftermarket exhaust systems.

So watch the speed bumps

Damn, that Spohn is LOW I'd be afraid I'd leave it behind on a speed bump in a lowered car.

FWIW, the Lakewood DSL mounts to the tunnel brace attachment but it goes over the top of the exhaust so no loss in ground clearance.

Basically, that's the best setup because it's one peice. The loop, the torque arm mount, and brace all in one. Sure, it's low, but you gotta pay to play.

Assuming you're okay with the idea of using the tunnel brace attach points to mount your torque arm...

I did the SLP brace with the driveshaft loop, otherwise keep stock.
