Question traction control?

What is the advantage of having the traction control on on these cars? Mine didnt come with it and was thinking of getting it installed. Any ideas?
Thanks

Advantage is, the car will balk after fishtailing slightly,
rather than fishtailing mightily in low-traction conditions.
It still won't get you up an icy hill on Goodyears, but it
will help you lose off the line to lower-powered cars.

If it were done right, it could have made the Torsen a
better traction differential, but they did it safe for
Grandma - who, as we all know, is who buys this model.

I tried to find a car without this "option" and couldn't.
Wish somebody would hack the TCS "brain" and make
it a bit smarter and lot more effective for the hard
driver.

I would get it if you drive in a lot of snow or rain. Other than that, it's the first thing I turn off after I start the car.

I bought the SLP module to turn mine off. It is not a very sophisticated system and is dangerous under some conditions (it gets loose in the snow and just as you catch it, the TCS cuts power, the tires grab and the car spins the other way, but this time, all the way around....you are along for the ride). If I could remove it, I'd give you mine.

I paid $450 to get it, and $50 for a box that automatically disables it????? Go figure....

you need the 4 channel abs controler, a 4 channel rearend, Servo motor, and some more parts... cost from GM is like $4000 in parts..

used, about $700+

i keep it on in the rain cause i've gotten loose on a few on ramps, but other than that i flip it off.

There is NO performance advantange to TCS, just a safety feature

While it does help a little in the rain I find it annoying the rest of the time. I have to agree with Trackbird, nothing worse in the snow.

You have to turn it off to manuver in the snow. Otherwise the car will just spin the rear tires and go sideways at an angle almost as if you were drifting the car. To go where the tires are pointed in a parking lot, you must turn it off.

If you don't have it, don't bother. As noted, it's not easy nor cheap to retrofit. However, my experience with it is more positive than those that have chimed in so far when in adverse weather conditions.
