Question LT1 Brake Upgrade: Difference Between LT1 and LS1 Spindles?

What's the difference between the two?

I'm looking at buying brackets so I can use my Stock Calipers with C5 Rotors. But first I need to swap to LS1 Spindles. Just curious what the difference is. I see this mentioned everywhere but I've never seen and comparison photos or anything...

What options do we have if we don't want to swap spindles?

I don't know of any . . . A bracket that uses the hub mounting points and cut off all the parts of the spindle that are in the way?

I am curious as to why you would want to maintain LT1 Calipers on a bigger rotor though?

I've noticed some bracket kits require the use of stock calipers... I wouldn't mind going another route.

Why upgrade rotors on stock calipers? Idk if you can even do that effectively.

You can use an LT1 spindle with an adapter bracket for C5 rotor/caliper setup, you just have to cut the ears off that hold on the factory caliper. Check out BMR's installation pdf on their website to see what Im talking about.

I would just swap the spindles. It isn't that bad, I think I had snagged my whole LS1 front brake setup for around $150 shipped. I did that back in 05 so my memory on it is a little fuzzy.

That was everything though, spindles, calipers, rotors, pads. I didn't reuse the pads and rotors, but I could have.

6LE has a brake kit, C5 rotors and stock calipers, only reason I was asking...

I'll be looking for spindles probably...

I'll check BMR website...

Thanks

The BMR brackets are exactly what I was looking for.

Gotta snag me some ZO6 Calipers and C5 Rotors, some stainless lines and such, and I'll be going.

UMI makes them as well, along with a couple other brands. If I remember right, they're all the same thing, but some brands are more expensive than others. You could probably save some dime from shopping around.

I'll do some looking. I'm going to piece this together over the next couple months. I've got a few other things I need to worry about before playing with the brakes on my old car.

Would there be any advantages to going to a complete Bear setup?

What size wheels are you running? If running 18s or larger just do the CTS-V setup.

It really depends on your goals and use for the car. Most people wouldn't even use C5 brakes to their full potential. I plan on doing C5 brakes for the following reasons:

-Availability
-Low price
-Great bang for the buck performance gain
-fits in 17" wheel, and fills it out very nicely
-GM part
-Many available rotors and pads
-If you get a flat tire up front, you can use a GTO 17" spare wheel
-You can still use GTO 17" spares as skinnys at the track

Running OEM ZR1s... 17"

I was just looking at price, the Bear setup isn't much more than a C5 upgrade kit...

They had a 13.15" Rotor kit with calipers and accessories for $1200... I was just thinking.

I'll be doing a full C5 Conversion, gonna start getting parts together now that I know what all I need and have all the details. Thanks for the thoughts and directions...

You can do a C5 setup for far less than $1200

Any problem with putting 98-02 spindles and calipers on a 95 Z-28 with 16 in stock wheels?
