Default now lowered.. have a few questions

Okay guys, im just tying up some loose ends on the strano/koni install and have a few questions:

- I did the install at my father in laws farm due to space and air tools. I will need to drive approximately 60 miles back into town. Will I be okay and will my be wearing my tires big time? I have a shop in the city that I want to go to for an alignment, but I need to drive the 60 miles back home. I rather not go to a Joe blow shop or the stealership in my father in laws town if I can avoid it.

-what should I be adjusting my pinion to for a lowered a4? I have read that -1 to -2 is good for a stock height but what about lowered?

-how do these alignment specs look for a street driven only dd in the summer. FYI I still want some decent tire wear with some improvement in handling over stock.

Camber -1.0, caster 4.0, Toe 0

Thanks

Stranos arent much lower than stock so a 60mi trip shouldnt hurt your tires much, if any

edit: just call Sam - he'll know better than anyone some good street alignment specs

Agreed. You won't notice any wear on your tires on just a 60 mile trip. Heck, I still haven't gotten an alignment on my car and I've been lowered for 75,000 miles.

10-4, thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure.

Can anyone chime in on the recommended pinion for a lowered car A4?

[QUOTE=cnd99hawk;14927234]"need to drive approximately 60 miles back into town."

should be ok, no big time wear

" adjusting my pinion to for a lowered a4? I have read that -1 to -2 is good for a stock height but what about lowered?"

ok for lowered

Okay sounds good..

I spoke to Strano and he said the settings I have should be good for a DD summer car. However, can I improve the numbers at all to maintain good tire wear, better cornering, and high speed stability over stock specs? Or am I asking for the world here? I just have a hard time understanding what I good vs bad alignment is. Since this is a DD in the summer, I want to try my best to get it on the rack once and be done with it.

What you listed you will probably be ok on; better cornering vs. tire wear. On my stock alignment I wore out the out side of the front tires, the -1 camber will off set that plus help in the corners. I saw were it's posted that a little toe in helps stability and toe out helps cornering. I went with the same specs as you listed and it feels good; more stable than stock and holds the curves better with less bounce. Have Strano springs too and Bilstiens instead of Koni.

Thanks for your input. I'm getting the alignment tomorrow morning.

Can anyone elaborate on any other specs that i should add to:

Camber -1.0
Caster +4.0
Toe 0

What about thrust angle? What's that all about and what would be some good specs based on the specs above?

For daily driver, I like zero camber and a little toe-in.

Agreed. When I spoke with Sam about my alignment specs he mentioned that camber could be between -1 and 0, but that at -1 I will get the trammeling effect that large front tires set with some camber angle can give on rutted roads. I set mine at -.75 and I find it does pull on the steering wheel on the deep ruts on my local roads.

Thank you. Sorry I was mainly asking about what my thrust angle should be with the specs above? what does thrust angle do for me?

The thrust angle should be zero or as close to zero as possible.

Thrust angle is the direction car travels in compared to the longitudinal centerline of the car.

Sweet thanks.

After talking to a few folks and some of your responses from this thread, I decided to change the camber a bit.. I needed to remind myself that this is basically a spirited DD and not Autox or anything fancy and I still wanted my rubber to last a while.

-0.2 Camber L/R
+4.5 to MAX Caster L/R
0 Toe L/R
