FWIW, I changed the gear oil in the rear of my '96 Z-28 a couple of times when the car was 2-3 years old. At that point, the grey moly lube had ben flushed out, and the oil looked clean when I dumped it. I then changed it one more time, this time adding one of the aluminum diff covers with the "support bolts", and filled it up with Valvoline syn diff oil. It's been OK (knock on wood) for the last 10 years, 40,000 miles.

This thread has gotten a bit long, and I've forgotten some of the "remedies" that were tried on the OP's car, so I'll toss in a basic question...Did the OP change tires at any point, and did it change the noise level at all?

Shot in the dark, but is anything rubbing anywhere?

OK, but I'm fortunate in that I have another DD for the summer, as well as the Camaro, and I store them both, and drive a 4x4 in the winter. Plus, I retired from full-time work 3 years ago. I now work part-time, and the job is only a couple of miles from my house, whereas my previous job was 20+ miles...
