Default Torque Arm Clunk Issue - With PICS!

Well my torque arm makes quite a bit of a clunk when I go from on the gas to off, or off the gas to on. More so when the converter is locked. The previous owner told me it was S&W Race suspension products, I took a picture of where the front of the torque arm attaches to the piece that goes across from the SFC's. I can pull and push on it to replicate the sound and see where it is moving, which I pointed out on the picture. The bolt & nut that go here don't tighten down, they only screw in so far.. if that makes sense.
One arrow is pointing to the bolt that doesn't tighten down snug, and the other two are where it's sliding up and down making the "clunk".

What I'm looking to do is eliminate this clunk if at all possible, thanks!

Can you install washers to take up some of the slack and allow the bolt to tighten?

I think its worn bolts and holes allowing it to move up and down. Overtightening the bolt is just a bandaid that will create a bind.

I would remove the bolts and the shackle (the part going between the top and bottom bolt in the picture) to check for wear on the bolts and holes.

If you can't find a replacement, you might be able to drill the shackles out to accept the next larger sleeve, to eliminate the slop.

its not supposed to be tightened to the point where it wont move, its supposed to move forward and backward upon accel.and decel., to to mention its aftermarket with poly. bushings. it is going to make noise, the only remedy is to put stock parts back on the car, which are isolated in rubber, and not bolted to the frame but rather the transmission.

Right, the bolt should allow everything to move back and forth, but what I think he's having a problem with is the holes on the shackles are egged out, so instead of just pivoting, the entire assembly has a lot of extra slop, allowing up-and-down movement at the mounting point, rather than just rotational movement around that mounting point.

The movement is maybe 3 mms at most when I pull on it. Maybe the sound is normal.

With the way that joint articulates, if there's clunking, something is loose that shouldn't be.
