Will the 50mm offset 17x11's from oewheels fit the front of a firebird without spacers? Firebirds seem to have wider fenders than camaros.

Also any pics on firebirds/trans ams would be appreciated since its hard to find them it seems

Actually I've heard the Firebirds have bigger fenders but I think it's on the outside. I'm not sure but I think in this case it's more ideal for a 36mm offset.

Fitment requires minor fender modification. I used the frrax.com guideline thread for fitment.
Did you need a spacer on the front? I know Ive seen these on the rear of firebirds without.

On my setup I went with a 50mm offset zr1 17x11 in front and used a 3/8ths sized hubcentric spacer. I also ground the small nub that sticks out from the spindle. You definitely need a spacer if using 50mm offset on the front.

I also went with some newer slightly longer ARP wheel studs for safety and hammered a lip upward in the 12 o clock position inside the fender.

I definitely suggest looking up the frrax how-to on this and completely rely on it

In my experience....

The 710s are more tolerant of camber challenged cars due to their rounded profile (the Hoosiers are much more square). This results in a bit less wear. They are also more tolerant of, shall we say, "caveman" type driving.

The Hoosiers demand you drive them "properly" but they are ultimately faster. Depending on where (surface types) I've run, I've gotten anywhere from middling to surprisingly good life out of them.

ive looked everywhere it seems for pics of 17x11 zr1 DD all around on a firebird, and have only found 2-3 really bad pics . I read the sticky on frrax, and it seems that the 50mm 17x11's will fit with a .375"-.500" spacer in the front. Everyone seems to have different results with the rear as far as needing them or not. Probably going to try without on the rear if I can and just buy some ARP studs for the front with a 12mm spacer. Where are people buying spacers from? Another question I have is...Are the front 17x11's going to negitivly effect the cars braking?

Current brake mods:
Baer "claw" Track Front brake kit with 13" rotors and dual piston calipers
Braided lines all around
SJM line lock and ABS Delete w/ wilwood proportioning valve

Ive seen many people running c5DD in 18x10.5 all around with the same mods to fit. I havent done a lot of tire searching yet but I seem to find that 315/35/17 are about $100 cheaper per tire than the 315/30/18. Thats with Nitto NT01's. But it seems like people on frrax are saying 18's are cheaper?

Run the right thickness spacer in the rear and you won't have to bludgeon your inner fender with a sledgehammer like many here are so fond of doing.

You WILL have to roll the fender lips either way however.

Get the wheels, mount them up, measure how much spacer you need. Simple.

I'd install ARP studs on the rear as well. The stockers are not the greatest and you're about to mount up some very large, sticky rubber.

I've had a handful of different thicknesses made by Alan Blaine (Blainefab). He is on FRRAX.

FWIW this was when I had the OE wheels. I had the CCWs built to need none.

Nope, in fact... quite the opposite (assuming you have a decent pad compound up there).

The big increase in unsprung, rotating weight (those OE wheels are H-E-A-V-Y) WAS noticeable for me though; both in braking AND accel.

is there a cheap alternative to the oewheels zr1's that are lighter? they seem to be pretty popular on frrax as far as beginner/entry level wheels, so I doubt it :lol

another question...
will these heavier wheels cause more stress on the front suspension and steering components? Such as premature wear on the shocks, bushings, tie-rods, and ball joints?

Why not run some 15x7 with sticky *** meat? 17x11 is a heavy wheel, I know mine are.

well after thinking about it, I can bet that the zenetti stella wheels are probably over 30lbs each. I doubt the 17" wheel would be even close to the chrome 19x9/20x11 wheels lol

OP if I were you, I would be on craigslist, ebay etc. and get some stock ws6 or ss wheels. Cheap and fit a decent tire.

I generally try to purchase new unless I can see the used parts in person. And as said before, my area sucks for fbody parts

What's scaring you away from going with the OE wheels route?
