Default Lowering question on F-Bodies

Im working on an 01 SS. Currently its got stock suspension. Im wanting to lower it and do a 315 tire in the rear. Any sugestions.. A good budy of mine suggested Strano shocks and lowering springs. My question is, will I have any issues running a 315 out back with those springs and shocks..

Best Regards,

Charlie

I have Stranos and Konis on my car with 315 Nitto 555 and it fits fine. My car is a Trans Am which the fender is a little wider than a Camaro. Also a 315 Nitto supposedly is narrower than most other 315's. I did roll the fenders to which was easy to do.

when he said strano he probably was talking about konis struts/shocks with stano springs. You can get 315's to fit no problem with the right offset. with the strano springs you will be right at 1.2" drop.

It would be a good idea to get a adjustable PHB.

We sell PHB's direct and also via Strano. Sam is your one stop shop for Strano/Koni/UMI!

I am running Konis and have installed stranos on the front. Still trying to find time to install the rear springs and rear suspension with my nitto 315's. I'll let you know how they fit. Hoping this weekend I can finish installing everything.

defintly can run strano/konis with big tires. as stated, depends on your offset. I have some BMW 10" deep dish Rondell 55s with 295 Kumho XS with pretty healthy positive offset. i need to roll my fender since i rub ever once in a while on heavy dips. I have vogtlands on my car but drop the car the same distance as the stanos 1.25" roughly. make sure you keep your isolators in the rears or it will drop it way more then 1.25 and might rub way to much.
im going to stick some black C5 ZR1 10.5" (i think)rims in the back with 315s to be able to fit wider tires. The biggest thing your going to run into is the bump stop. if you can keep it i would, but your gonna have to massage the inner fender to fit 315s... IE a hammer. mostly in strategic areas. there are some threads on this on where to smack it so your not just bashing around under there all ***** nilly like lol
you can save your bump stop if you lift the car on the axle but that can be a pain in the *** if you cant do it that way or have a lift that lifts by frame or pinchwelds.
alot of peopel say they have cut them and then install some kind of bumpstop some were around the springs. im not to sure on how to do that though. still have my bump stops.
defninitly get an adjustable pan hard bar. an on car makes it alot easier but not neccesary. if you get the UMI panhard support rod, youll also need a driverside pan hard relocation panhard mount because with the dropped geometry will cause the pan hard and pandhard relocation support bar will contact eachother with NOTICABLE banging. its enough to make marks in the nice powder coating the one i got is called a jegster... not sure who wlse make these. UMI doesnt from my understanding unless they added it to their inventory recently.

My Koni with vogtlands

Before along before my rim refinishing

before with my "travel" rims

After with "travel" rims

and with the refinished wider rears

as you can see, 1.25 isnt much and leaves you room for other rims and tires. Mine are all 17s

and now with 315s lol now its more relavant but still,
with a little grinding and trimming on the bump stop and slight hammering on the inner fenderwell, you can have it fit right on there. No need for cutting off the the bump stop completely.

Mines dropped with the same hieghth as stanos with Vogtland springs, 1.25" drop in the back. no rubbing issues at all for me.

^^^ those look like 17x9.5's. Mine are the same exept they have about 2in of lip thats not powder coated in the rear. Mine are the 17x11's with 315's and my bump stops had to be removed to allow the wheel to even be bolted on the car as the tire was hitting the bump stop when the car was on the jack. BTW my offset is 50mm acording to OE Wheels.

the fronts are 17x9.5s and the rear are 17x11s. im not sure what offset they are but its stamped on the inside 17x11 for the rears... ive even measured to make sure. plus, i woundnt mount 315s on a 9.5" rim anyway lol
i think i lucked out and got a different offset i guess. that or my 98 TA has a wider rearend and allowed me to not have to grind off my bumpstops all the way.

my car is lowered 2 inches and i got a 325 45 17 in there with only slight rubbing on the plastic bumper. they are m&h racemasters on 17x11 vette rims and measure around 28 tall and just over 10 inches wide.

plus one on this! I got my major UMI components thru him. Shipping was pretty quick considering he had to send my stuff overseas at the time, but it all got to me quickly and in great shape

Another vote for adjustable PHB. I'm also on konis/stranos but not running a wide tire.

This is kind of a funny post. I have an 01 SS, I just ordered the Bilstein/Strano package and bought some 17x11's for the rear which I am currently trying to find some 315's for, and my name is Charlie. Ironic lol

My buddy was running 17x11's with 315's on his car which was lowered and he said the rubbing was minimal but suggested I order the Jeep bump stops that Strano sells. I also have some UMI lca's and adj. phb but I won't be able to put any of this stuff on the car for at least another month. I am looking to find some Nitto NT05's because they run slightly smaller (or so I've been told). I know there are a lot of members on here running very similar setups though and IMO that says something in itself. It must not rub too bad if so many people drive with it every day. Good luck
