Default Hydroboost - What is required?

Long story short, my engine bay is almost completely gutted minus the heater core housing, fuse box/driver side wiring harness, brake booster, steering column/knuckle, and brake booster. I intend on removing these items and stripping the paint so that I can re-route some wiring, shave some ground holes, and have the bay sprayed in the OEM Arctic White paint.

As with my build/restoration, I'm constantly looking at ways to improve the aesthetics/performance of the vehicle. In the past, I've come across guys that have gutted the brake booster in favor of the Chevy Astro? hyrdoboost setup. Anyone here done this before? If so, what all is involved? I've searched high and low for a write up and cannot seem to track one down.

Any help is much appreciated.

My suggestion would be to make it really easy on yourself and contact the guys at Hyrdatech Braking Systems. They make a hydro set up for 4th gens. Easy install, quality parts, looks great, works with ABS and provide nose bleed stopping power.

First off, beautiful setup there LPE. That is truly a work of art.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of $ am I looking at for this type of setup? I don't mind spending the cash, but I have my motor at the machine shop now and I'm not entirely sure what kind of financial damage that is going to cause! I am planning on keeping my stock calipers and rotors for the time being, but do have intentions on upgrading next year. Would this type of setup work with stock equipment? Calipers have been set out for powder coating, then I'll be rebuilding and reinstalling them.

EDIT: Is this the system you're running?

If so, what upgrades did you opt for?

Yep, that's the system. Think I went with the 4' lines and "Street" finish. Great set-up...

I'd imagine you're no longer on stock calipers and lines, is that a safe assumption? I was planning on running new braided lines, powerdercoated & rebuilt stock calipers, Brakemotive drilled/slotted rotors, and Hawks HPS Pads until next year. Any thoughts on this setup in conjunction with Hydroboost?

you can convert to hydroboost on a completely stock brake system.. all it does is use hydraulic pressure instead of vacuum pressure.

I converted to a hydroboost system on my old silverado and it was night and day difference.

Is this the type of procedure that ditches the brake booster and utilizes the Chevy Astro hydro boost module? We need a write up for this!

i have a 2006 gmc sierra with a hydroboost setup, they are fairly simple.
if you're looking to retrofit your truck, then you need a hydroboost module that will bolt up. whether all gm trucks from your 1990 to now are the same i don't know, but for starters you can look up on rockauto under various years for gmc trucks and see models have a hydroboost. they generally use a power steering pump that has two low pressure return fittings instead of one. so you can either put on a new steering pump if it fits that is meant to be used with a hydroboost setup, otherwise you'll have to tee into your existing return line to your oem power steering pump for the low pressure return from the hydroboost. then you just need the correct length pressure hoses that fit like in the pic. the black lines are the high pressure, the hydroboost just connects in series between the pump and steering gear. there is nothing electrical you have to worry about.
