Hydroboost - What is required?
As with my build/restoration, I'm constantly looking at ways to improve the aesthetics/performance of the vehicle. In the past, I've come across guys that have gutted the brake booster in favor of the Chevy Astro? hyrdoboost setup. Anyone here done this before? If so, what all is involved? I've searched high and low for a write up and cannot seem to track one down.
Any help is much appreciated.
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of $ am I looking at for this type of setup? I don't mind spending the cash, but I have my motor at the machine shop now and I'm not entirely sure what kind of financial damage that is going to cause! I am planning on keeping my stock calipers and rotors for the time being, but do have intentions on upgrading next year. Would this type of setup work with stock equipment? Calipers have been set out for powder coating, then I'll be rebuilding and reinstalling them.
EDIT: Is this the system you're running?

If so, what upgrades did you opt for?
I converted to a hydroboost system on my old silverado and it was night and day difference.

if you're looking to retrofit your truck, then you need a hydroboost module that will bolt up. whether all gm trucks from your 1990 to now are the same i don't know, but for starters you can look up on rockauto under various years for gmc trucks and see models have a hydroboost. they generally use a power steering pump that has two low pressure return fittings instead of one. so you can either put on a new steering pump if it fits that is meant to be used with a hydroboost setup, otherwise you'll have to tee into your existing return line to your oem power steering pump for the low pressure return from the hydroboost. then you just need the correct length pressure hoses that fit like in the pic. the black lines are the high pressure, the hydroboost just connects in series between the pump and steering gear. there is nothing electrical you have to worry about.
