Default Almost Ready for Alignment (pics)

So after lots of scrubbing in the parts washer, then soapy hot water, followed by rust neutralizer the parts were ready for paint. I did the control arms in several light coats of high heat gloss black and the spindles and bearing assemblies in high heat cast gray.

The rubber parts were all in very good shape and were reused. Really almost no real bad rust on any of the parts. The springs are also original and I reused them too.

Looks really good. A little elbow grease and some around-the-house product makes a world of difference

Yea, drive shaft is steel, but gears are 3.23's and a T56 I know Id like to upgrade to a 3.73 if not a 4.10 gear set... That and headers are my next mods. I was wondering about an aluminum drive shaft..... which cars had them and which are compatible for my 93Z?

GM Camaro parts layout catalog is very confusing when it comes to driveshafts.

http://performanceworks1.com/PDF%20F...s%20Manual.pdf

Pages 869 & 870
those are for 93-97

there's no info for 98-02
I've seen aluminum driveshafts with these #s'
-12554454
-12559525 3 rivers 2000 SS
-12560725
-12564004 3 rivers AAM 02 TA auto 01 WS6

I have a '96 Z/28, with the A4 and "granny gears", as for a number of years, it was a summertime daily commuter, and fuel mileage was a bit of a concern. Nonetheless, Lingenfelter Performance was offering aluminum driveshafts for $199, about 10 years ago. I bought one, installed it promptly, and noticed absolutely no difference in performance. I took it out last year, and sold it....

I wonder if its necessary at all then... weight savings and less rotating mass would be the only reasons I could think of for GM to have gone to the aluminum version...

I believe they were experiencing some harmonics problems with some of their steel shafts, in performance applications. I had the u-joints replaced in mine, as well as a re-balance, done at a reputable shop. I've been OK....

there was a TSB issued for steel driveshafts(when they were still under warranty)in regards to if customers complained of vibrations,an aluminum driveshaft was installed. If you're not having issues,no reason to replace it.

Looks awesome!

I just did the same thing on my 01.

Upper and lower ball joints, control arm bushings, tie rod ends. Koni Yellow's with Strano springs. Sanded down the body to the strut mount. Re-lubricated the rubber mounts. Prepped and painted the control arms, spindles, and everything.

Definitely makes it look all nice and pretty!

Great work!
