Default Ls1 Front Calipers Left to Right Difference

This may sounds stupid, im doing a ls1 brake swap on my lt1. Ended up with 2 new front calipers, only problem is they are both drivers side. The brackets are left and right, but the caliper itself are both drivers. Can you use them as left and right with the correct bracket? I know the bleeder on the passenger side and hose will be at the bottom. Will it affect anything?

It will not work. You need to get the correct side unfortunately.

technically i think it could work, you would just have to have the caliper unbolted and point the bleeder up in the air. Place a block of wood or something inbetween the pistons of the caliper and bleed it that way. Then you should be able to install it back onto the bracket.

I'd rather spend the 60 dollars at the auto parts store on a caliper and just do it right and not have to worry about it.

You could also loosen the line bolt instead of the bleeder to bleed but it's messier. Well worth buying a new caliper and just turn yours in for the core IMO but sometimes the budget is tight...

I ended up with 2 brand new calipers and already traded in the cores. 1 from Autozone and 1 from Oreillys. They are warranty replacements, called the old cores are gone. So im stuck with 2 new drivers calipers. Its either dish out $100 with the cost of the core for a passenger, or just wing it with what I have for now.

Can you try exchanging one of them if you have your receipt/box for the proper one? If your buddy buddy with the part store you might be able to talk them into trading it out and just letting their supplier re-sticker or rebox it.

You can still turn in the rebuilt caliper as a core for the proper one. That should make the cost to you around $50 through Advance and then you can still use a coupon code. I think I paid $35 for a new one from them the other day.

This would be my first choice. After that, next choice would be to take the hit on a new or rebuilt caliper (using an existing one as a core), after that, next choice would be to flip the caliper around to the other side of the rotor (ie. If it supposed to be at 3 o'clock, flip it to the 9'clock spot) bleed it there then install it properly.

OP: personally, unless this was an error on your part (it happens, lesson learned), I'd be pissed if I got two driver sides when I expected both sides. Whoever got my "core" back in that situation would be guaranteed a hard time when I walked in the door.

I mean if you're on a crazy budget just do as mentioned above and bleed it with the bleeding up using a board or something to prevent blowing the piston out then install it. It will just be a pain in the *** every time you need to bleed them...otherwise it shouldn't hurt anything.

Actually im being a cheap ***, I bought the ls1 front brake stuff for cheap off a friend that is parting out 2 ls1 cars. But Calipers, rotors and pads are junk. So I made some calls to my ls1 buddies and one had a lifetime warranty from the zone on a drivers caliper and another buddy said he had one from Oriellys on a passenger caliper. Well after I did the warranty exchange I get home not doing much research and both were drivers side. One buddy was mistaken lol. I still have to buy rotors and pads, but I looked at it as I bleed my brakes very seldom. I mean once every few years if that. So doing it one time off the car on one side wasnt gonna bother me if it would still work the same. Yea Id rather have the passenger side, but if it will work the same, im all for saving $50. I know im a cheap ***.

Just make sure it doesn't put the brake hose in a bind or make it want to flex toward moving suspension parts during turning.
