Default Installing Panhard Rod

A friend just gave me a BMR non adjustable panhard rod. Do I need to get the wheels off the ground to install it? I couldn't find any clear instructions.

Thanks!

Put the car on jackstands at a height that allows the axle to reach full droop with the wheels off the ground. Install with bolts hand-tight. Jack up the rear until it's at normal ride height (or just drop the car on the ground) and torque to 61 lb-ft.

I didn't even go that far, but I had an adjustable one that made what I did a little easier.

While I had the passenger side jacked up with the rear tire off to change the control arm I removed the upper bolt for the panhard then slid in under the side of the car that was on the ground and removed the lower bolt, then when installing the new one I put the top bolt in and extended the length of the bar till it lined up with the lower hole. If you have access to a set of ramps you might be able to just back it up on them and do it all right there without jacking up the car at all.

Thanks. All the instructions I found just said to jack the rear up, but didn't say if the wheels needed to be in the air or not.

IF it's lowered, back it up on a set of ramps. At stock ride height unless your a really big guy you can just slide under the car and replace it.

It isn't lowered. I am not skinny =], but I can probably squeeze in there. I thought about trying that, but wasn't sure if once I unbolted the stock one if it was gonna move.

You'll just have to wiggle the chassis/body of the car from side to side to get the first bolt out, an when installing the last bolt in with the new phb.. You can also have a friend lean up against fender up above the rear tires to move the chassis/body in the direction needed to remove the first bolt or install the last bolt.
I'd remove the passenger side bolt first when removing the old, and install it last when installing the new phb sine the passenger side bolt is a lot easier to see and access.

Also...., don't forget to lube the poly bushings before installing the new phb, IF it doesn't have grease zerks to lube the bushing with it installed.

I'd give it a couple of fully pumps with a grease gun, and wipe off any excess grease , IF you have any.
