Default Help me stop better...

Without upgrading and using stock brakes...what is the best pad for bringing a full weight, 130 mph in 1/4 mile f-body to a stop on a short shut-down area. Car is a track/cruise in car only (probably less than 500/year total). Thanks,

Certainly someone has an opinion. Thank for the bump.

It's a broad question but for street pads that work well the Hawks HPS and HP+ are common favorites.

The HP+ will bite harder but cause more dust and possibly some noise.

I have full 4th gen fbody brakes on my car with over the counter pads but will be going to the HPS when I get some new rotors.

That said if you are talking more for a road course application, I would call Sam Strano and see what he recommends. He carries a variety of brands and can surely help you get lined out with something that fits your goals and budget.

Its really hard to say but you would probably want to use something in their race compound but that's not the best for street use.

The car gets trailered to the track and rarely driven to cruise-in or meet. So, dust, noise, life, isn't important. I just need it to stop better as the "corn field" seems to be coming up fast lately.

I knew this was coming and I agree (especially when new motor goes in and will be closer to 140mph). That set up is about a grand correct?
Was just seeing if anyone had better pad suggestion other than my stockers.

The absolute best thing to do is call Sam Strano at stranoparts.com and use what he says.

He would know what pad is best to use for your scenario.

Less then a grand for the fronts. These MFs stop too bud lemme tell you. They are a little different then stock brakes, the pedal feel is a tad different and changes as they get hot (stock is probably similar but not near as noticeable). When you hammer down on the brake pedal it feels like you're gonna slide into the dashboard though.

I really need to prioritize my spending...building a motor that the rear can't handle or the brakes for that matter. Maybe I should back up and do breaks-rear-then finish new motor.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about upgrading to the C5 front brake kit. It's not too expensive and produces a lot more stopping power. You should look into that...

If you're full weight then youve got a lot left on the table performance wise. My car weighs 3040 with full interior and 18" wheels, nothing holesawed.

Pretty much how I'm doing it. I have an S60 with UMI suspension and the stock brakes with braided lines, ATE rotors, and HPS pads from Strano. It has LTs, still on the LS1 intake, and untuned, so it's basically one of the slowest LS1 f-bodies on the road. It will be ready when the motor goes in though.

3040# is LIGHT!! (I did read your thread on how you got there)
Full weight is ok with me. I got to have a/c and not gonna remove bumper supports, etc. Only weight reduction I got is no sway bar and light rims, that's it!

Completely understood why people would want to keep some of the stuff ive deleted. Its not for everyone just something to consider.

Those strange brakes are badass!

Something that I'll be considering in the future. Seams to have good stopping power and the weight savings is what I like

Yeah, weight off the front is always good, not to mention rotating weight (=x3)!
