Default CTS-V 6 Piston Calipers on my 1999 Z28!

Installed some 6 Piston CTS-V Brembos on my 1999 Z28 over the weekend. What do you guys think? Pretty simple mod only takes a few hours.

However I had a question regarding the swap. I could not find the exact torque specs for the the caliper bolts. I found one that said to torque to 166 ft/lb and another that said 129 ft/lb. I torqued to 129 ft/lb and used blue thread locker. Do I need to torque them more or will I be fine?

I think those bolts are not going to move being torqued to 129 ft/lbs with the treader locker.

Where did you get the parts and what size wheels do you run?

Took about 2 months to track all the parts down at reasonable prices.
Had to get a buddy from Arizona to hook me up with a good price on the calipers since his friends dad works at a GMC dealer.
Had to find the bigger caliper bolts at a local Cadillac dealer
Custom lines from an online store I can't remember right now lol
Cetric CTS-V 14.6 Rotors and Centric Pads of eBay. If you go with Centric Brake Pads it come with the Pin Kit that's needed which is a great deal since the Pin Kit is really pricey.
Found a shop the would bore the rotors CTS-V to F-Body specs.
1/2 & 9/16 drill bit from home depot to drill out the mounting holes.
5mm Hub Centric Wheel Spacers from eBay.
That's it I think.

What size wheels? I'm thinking you need to have 18's to do this?

Yes you need 18" wheels, I'm running 18" C5 Z06 wheels and they just clear the calipers by like 1/4 of an inch.

Are you running the c5 10.5" wide wheels in the front or 9.5? Do you know the offset? My 4 pistons were dangerously close to the spokes with my 18x9.5 wheels I believe with a 56mm offset. I run an 1/8" spacer because I was worried about wheel/caliper flex/contact under heavy braking and cornering.

I'm running 9.5" wide wheels, I'm not sure of the offset on them though.

I'm currently running a 5mm spacer (1/5")

Now that you mention "wheel/caliper flex/contact under heavy braking and cornering", do you guys think I'll be fine with the clearance I have? The spokes are quite close to the calipers, I can fit maybe a Popsicle stick in between the spokes.

considering they are fixed calipers and not floating ones you should be fine

When I was bleeding the 4 piston brakes, I was at the caliper and my buddy was pumping the brakes. I saw how much the fixed caliper flexed which made me concerned with the amount of spoke to caliper clearance I had without spacers. The caliper flex coupled with the wheel flexing under the hard cornering just didn't sit right with me. Call me paranoid or not, I didn't want any contact at high speed, or any speed for that matter. I then ordered 1/8" spacers as a precaution knowing I was going to drive the car hard.

I think I'll change to some 8mm spacers I have they feel too close to the spokes and I'd rather be safe than sorry lol

Glad you posted this. I'll be doing my front calipers this winter & also ordering wheels, so I am going to need to know my offsets to avoid any nasty surprises & further delays.

Would you mind popping the wheel off & throwing a few measurements up for the rest of us? It'd be great to know how where that caliper is going to sit, with respect to the wheel.

I'm compiling a parts list & shopping around online, as well. What were you able to get your total down to (before pads)?

I'll be able to get some measurements tomorrow.. It's been raining here and it's suppose to clear up tomorrow. I'm switching back to my 8mm wheel spacers so I'll be able to check then.

Total price came to a little under $700 with every single part needed for the job, including the $45 to bore out both rotors to F-Body specs and the 9/16 drill bit needed to enlarge the bolt hole for the bigger calipers.

Tomorrow would awesome. I'm make my decision this week & place the order soon after.
Under $700 from stock to 6 piston V2 + rotors? You got me beat by a lot! You did really well!

Yeah I got a great deal on the Calipers, my friend from Arizona was able to get me a killer deal on them since he knew the owner of a GMC dealer and they had been sitting on the shelves for a few years.

As far as Rotors and Pads I went with Centric because they make the Stop Tech stuff and they have really good prices and I've also heard really good things about them.

Don't forget you'll need custom lines and 4 new caliper mounting bolts.

Can't wait to get mine rolling again. There's a lot more clearance, just doing a test fit and didn't do it tight since the hubs weren't opened up yet so it was resting a little on the caliper when I snapped this pic.

2 piece rotors, they're oem upgrades. Got them off amazon for a good price. Of course all the CTS-V stuff is climbing in price now...
