Default Subframe connectors can't get anyone to weld them in..

Is this really so bad that you can't weld sub-frame connectors in? Hell I told 2 different shops I will pay whatever you want to do it and do it right. I just want it done..

I don't understand why a shop would not take this on. Installing sfc's is a very simple and straight forward task. Literally like an hour job if you have a drive-on lift. Most muffler/exhaust shops can handle it. What SFC's do you have?

Basically they are covering themselves in the worst possible scenario of their shop being liable for any injuries or damage caused by welding anything that goes down the road.

Ya know, if that was everyone's case nobody could do ANY service for anyone any more. Like the got damn tire shops that wont mount your very obvious brand new tire since you didnt buy it from them.

It's a special case , you are permantley modifying someone's chassis. It's not like changing a tire.

What happens if a weld fails in the eyes of a sue happy lawyer ?

Well if the weld failed then you'd still have the original chassis the car was designed to have.

I agree, it seems really ridiculous that shops won't install subframe connectors. Bob

I end up doin alot of odd ball jobs in my shop that other shops won't do. To do it right tho it's definitely more than a hours job.

Fill the gap with some flat plate material to build it back up and the connector will fit well enough to weld in.

OP, have you tried a body shop? They may be able to get your car on a lift, warm up the bent portion of the subframe and pull it back into shape with a "slide hammer", then weld in your SFC.

We are with BMR on this one. It's fairly easy job and we always recommend a muffler shop to our customers as well. You want to make sure the car is support on all 4 tires so the chassis does not have a twist in it during installation.

I've tried 2 exhaust shops, 3 body shops, and 1 auto shop that had a welder.

Your damage must be much worse than it looks like in that picture. I've welded sfc's on Foxbodies who's subframes looked way more beat up than yours. What brand SFC's are you running? I have MWC SFC's on my car and I had to take a hammer and piece of brass to the side of one of the front subframes a little to get my MWC SFC's to fit right as the subframe was a little buldged probably from lifting the weight of the car or something. Infact from my experience you rarely see a car with perfect subframes if its got some decent mileage on it.

I've been told "nothing to weld them too", "We only do insurance work", "You need to take it to a body shop".

It's OK though I just bought a welder. Going to learn to weld and do it my damn self.

Lol...good call

I'm not doin sfc's but i am welding up the chassis.

Doin it like this makes a huge difference in chassis regidity. 1" weld 2" gap on all the chassis seams. You can hear how much more solid the car is just by thumping on the floor. I put a entire floor in my uncles 56 bel air and did it the same way.

Now that ^ is pretty damn nice! That's the real way to tie together the chassis!
