Default Passenger strut tower rust

Does anyone know where the moisture gets in and causes the rust that's so common on these cars? I replaced my pass shock with another and within 1.5 years it was thoroughly rusted again.

Has anyone done anything to stop it successfully?

Are you talking 4th Gen F-body car...?

Water comes from underneath i.e. from the wheel house, whenever the tire plows thru a puddle water splashes up onto the mount and seeps in above the mount.

I drill a hole in the top of the mount down into the mount cavity where the nut lives... this lets moisture evaporate out.

Also coat the nut and mount cavity with wheel bearing grease... the hole lets you apply new grease as needed.

Sorry, I am talking 4th Gen F-body. (Hear about them so much more in this part of the forum I kind of assumed ><)

Interesting how the drivers side doesn't rust, yet the passenger does. (I guess there are more puddles on the right side of the road than the middle..)

My 1998 v6 Firebird has that exact same problem on the passenger side only.
