I looked a little deeper into "The Rack Doctor" and saw his cores that he picks up from junk yards with unknown history, didn't look any better than what I was starting off with so I cancelled my order and just rebuilt my own.

This is why turnone is the only game in town for 4th gen rack rebuilds. Get the job done once, or do it over and pay multiple times for re-alignment, and be in the hole.

Been there, done that. The owner Rich is a real piece of work if you check out his Facebook page. Don't forget to leave a Rack Doctor review if you have Facebook.

They are a tree in a forest of them. I bought three racks, car quest, and two from local auto parts stores - all of them leaked. I imagine like a lot of people, looked at the cost of turnone and thought "that's a lot", and then got the "cheaper" option. Experience really is the hardest teacher. The turnone rebuild is going on five years now, boots are as dry as the day i put it on.

Man they used to be great... about 6 years ago. I've replaced many R&Ps on Fbodies. I used to always use Rack Doctor. I haven't had to do one in a while, so I haven't had any recent experience with them. But for a few years I was ordering from them and sending cores back regularly. I did my own and a few for friends. Easiest way is to use a sawzall to cut the bolt that won't come out without raising the motor or dropping the cradle, just cut the top off and let it drop through. Then put a new one in upside down with loctite. Mine in my Z28 has lasted for about 100K miles, and one I did in my WS.6 lasted over 150K miles. With lots of hard miles.

At one time they had a good rep. So I used them when our R&P went south on our Buick minivan. Product was garbage and failed almost immediately, leaking like a sieve. Plus they never sent me an online invoice, and the part arrived only with a packing slip. So because no invoice, they wouldn't honor their "warranty." Total scammers, probably meth heads or something like that.

Eventually replaced the unit with one from Detroit Axle and it functioned perfectly. I recommend them.

core charges are common. should have sent your old rack back and the core would have been refunded to you.

regardless - the core should have NOTHING to do with warranty work

Detroit speed now offers a brand new rack for not much more than places charge for a rebuild. There’s no way I’ll look at rebuilding one anymore.

I entered this thread specifically to mention Detroit Speed. I was dead set on a TurnOne rebuild until Detroit Speed released their rack and it’s by far and away the better buy. Brand new, far better warranty, it’s a no brainer. And Detroit Speed has built themselves a well deserved reputation for quality. How are you liking your unit? Any different feel from stock? I haven’t ordered one yet as it will still be awhile until I would even be able to use it (I’ve been waiting on a crankshaft since May…)

Any chance of possibly working with them for a tighter ratio rack?
