Default Suspension Noises

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2000 WS6 with about 86K miles. For the last few years, I have been getting suspension squeaking noises in the front and creaking noises in the rear. Has gotten worse little by little over the years. Suspension is all original. Is there a cheap and easy way to remedy this? My mechanic says he can't find anything to lube. Thanks very much.

"My mechanic says he can't find anything to lube." That's because he's looking for grease fittings. Aftermarket sway bar bushings/U-brackets come with grease fittings, the OEMs' didn't. The OEMs' need to be removed, opened up, and grease applied manually. It's easier to just replace the front and rear with aftermarket greaseable ones.

Thank you very much!

I am a total amateur with all this. I will mention to my mechanic about replacing the "sway bar bushings/U-brackets", as you mentioned. If there is anything additional you recommend I tell him, please let me know. Thanks again!

Do you have an opinion on rubber vs polyurethane? My limited understanding is rubber is the OEM (true?) and makes for a more soft/comfortable ride but is not as long lasting as the poly.

Factory rubber bushings = comfort, Aftermarket poly bushings = better handling with a slightly stiffer ride. You might not even notice the difference in comfort.
Sway bars end link bushings, unless they're deteriorated/broken/flattened, no need to replace those.

For the rear, it could be sway bar bushings. That seems to be a common point of creaking/squeaking as these cars age. They won't necessarily look bad, but can still be making noise. Mine do this a bit in cool weather, sometimes.

My WS6 has been making the creaking/squeaking noises from the rear of the car for about 10 yrs. Like your car RPM WS6, my car tends to make the noise in cooler weather. I guess I should replace my rear sway bar bushings.

Thumbs up

I have a lot of aftermarket suspension upgrades on Sara (2001 Z28), with polyurethane bushings. Upon installation (2002) they were greased with synthetic grease, and now after time they "creek and squeak" a lot. I love it, I did not purchase and modify this vehicle to be a soft riding p***y wagon. I like the stiffness and rigidity, and the noise.

That's a beautiful SOM Z28, Steve! I get it with the poly bushings squeaking. I installed poly bushings on my 1980 Z28 way back in the 2000-2001 time frame. However, my Trans Am's bushings are just old, OEM bushings so I don't have any performance advantage to offset the annoying noise during the cooler weather.
