Replacing front struts

Anything I should know about issues having this done? My mechanic is letting me buy the parts, I have chosen KYB 341356 GR-2 / Excel-G Struts only and now need the upper mounts. I read of problems with mounts, but never lead to any conclusions except for Moog and KYB mount failures in general?

The primary issue is the shock nut rusts itself and is a pain to remove. Having a dremel ready to cut through the shock nut will be handy.
@Sam Strano carries the replacement mounts Upper shock mount + Insulator kit (one kit does both front shocks)
Is this a street driven car only?

Hi, and thanks for the info, more concerned with what to buy though, my mechanic will get through the process. I just read about these upper mounts failing, there there was no solution. Was all ready to buy a set of those KYB and then read the mount issues here and there. Maybe there is another part to do it right, an isolator between the mount and shock?

The upper shock mounts might be fine. If not, the part referenced earlier is the correct part, regardless of shock brand. How many miles are on the car? How well was it maintained? The only two parts outside the shock itself, are they upper and lower insulator. The upper tends to be the one that get worn out.
Has your mechanic checked anything else? Ball joints, tie rods ends, the bushings in the control arms. Those are the typical maintenance things in the suspension.

when I had my struts replaced, I had the mechanic “index” the springs. Before disassembly of the old strut, he marked where the end of the spring was to the top seat. Upon assembly, he reinstalled the spring to the mark on the seat, so the spring sat exactly where it was before disassembly. What this accomplished was, that the vehicle sat level as it did before the strut change.

@sjsingle1 is correct. Didn't want to spend your money there, as it's your car and money. It's a bit more spend, but the Bilstein's are just a better riding street shock, and better quality. Bilsteins were available OEM on the SLP optioned cars.

Koni Yellow (Sports) are good if you're going to lower and/or autocross the car, but the low speed impact harshness is very noticeable. The harshness is especially noticeable on rough roads (like the north east). The fact that he wants OEM ride and he spec'd KYB's initially (Koni Yellows are far more expensive), are the reasons I suggested Bilsteins.
