I took mine to Mineke & had em taken off & put the new springs back on & paid the guy $20 under the table. The compressors that are 2 lengths of all thread can be dangerous, I know of a person that posts here that broke his thumb breaking the coil over down. Probably any place that handles suspension will have the big wall mount compressor that is MUCH safer.

Well obviously you cant tap it with a hammer towards the bottom of the shock, so the only way to do it would be upwards. However, the thick ring on the top of the shock doesnt allow the spring seat to come off and does seem like it would go over it with some light tapping.

I have to send off both front and rear shocks tomorrow and I need to take the spring seats off. Obviously they wont come off from the bottom portion of the shock, so the only way would be from the top, but there is a thick ring/washer on top of the shock that doesnt allow it to come off. How do I remove them? Thanks.

Will the gold ring go back on? Reason I ask is because if it wont, then I dont wanna ruin a set of shocks. I already have the money for them and would hate to mess them up and have to send the money back.
By the way, Brains, how did your post get in front of mine and how come mine is at the bottom?

Oh oh... the "cap" on the top of the shock where the shaft goes into the body will be hammered out. This takes some slightly harder tapping to get it off. I believe its there ot keep debris away from the shock shaft. Then the perch can slide off, mine took some light tapping to remove.

Server clock was off - when I reset it, posts got a little out of order ![Winky](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_wink.gif)
Anyway, you won't ruin the shock at all. you can tap the ring back on easily. When you buy replacement shocks, the ring is usually loose in the box anyway.
