Default Brakes Question

Ok I have a 96 camaro, now if i start to dip into the low 10's/high 9's wat kind of brakes woudl i need? Can I upgrade to LS1 front calipers and just a drilled and slotted rotor and good pads? Or would i have to go with something with a 4 piston design? And for the rears can i just go with a good solid pad and stock rotor and caliper?

I could be wrong, but I've never heard of anyone needing a brake upgrade for drag racing an fbody. Slotted rotors are for looks only.

That is no problem to stop. Mustangs with a lot smaller brakes are doing the same thing at faster speeds.

Pro-stock cars run upwards of 200MPH and they stop without a chute all the time.

WHAT!!!!! Maybe if they have 1/2 mile or more to stop like at Joliet...
Your nuts, my 180 mph 57 cant stop without a chute..And my buddies 210 mph Lumina cant stop without his chutes either..You need to turn on the NHRA and pay attention bud!

OK, at the tracks I frequent they have no problems. The old Fremont (Baylands) they had some trouble but Bakersfield, Infinieon, LACR, and Orange County there is ample room.

BTW, a stock 02F body will stop from 100MPH in just over 350 feet. Add some decent pads and tires, I'm sure any LS could pull down from 150 in under 500 feet.

I do watch a little TV, although I prefer to actually be there. A buddy runs a nostalgia AA front engine digger. You are correct that most guys usually use their chute, my point was that they don't have to. Watch some half track runs, when they lift or shut down early for whatever reason. They still hit the traps at 170-200 and usually don't pull the chute.

if they are shutting off half track they are probably 150-190 depending on the class and when your shutting off 600 feet early you got a lot less load to contend with.

I guess I'm not understanding, if you are going 150-190 at the 1/4 mark how does the braking distance change till the end of pavement?

You shouldn't have a problem with stock brakes and some good pads. The LS1 upgrade would be a nice all around improvement or if you want to do something fairly unique on F-bodies, the C5 brake upgrade is very, very nice and straightforward. I have the standard grey C5 calipers and they don't stand out too much or you can make them stand out with the Z06 reds if thats your thing.
