Default Braking problem?

For some reason when I brake really hard in my TA, I never feel the ABS kick in, on and off against my foot. I aslo have never locked them up in a hard stop. I have soft tires(Nittos in back BFG's in front), so the car has good grip. Anyone know why the ABS is not felt? Could their be a problem with it, but that does not allow me to lock the brakes up?
Thanks.

Try a good straight section of road and ensure thre is no one behind you .
From a 40 mph roll push brake rapidly to the floor (panic stop) . If your ABS is inop you should get uncontrolled wheel lockup.

Just because you brake hard doesn't necsarily mean you have to invoke the ABS.

Did it, and still no lockup, but no "tap, tap, tap" under the foot either.

I've got Nitto R's all around and can activate the ABS at 40 or so if I press real hard. and that's with stock rotors and pads. If I pull the ABS fuse under the hood, I can slide the car real good (wait, that was with crappy tires). Anyway, in your case, I would start to suspect your brakes are just really weak. The LT1's used a 1" smaller rotor and a one piston caliper so they aren't quite as strong as the LS1 stuff, but still.

Have you driven other newer cars to get an idea of what they are like? Maybe you could benefit from some grippier pads.

I know one guy, Trackbird, who has an LS1 and grippy R's all around and is using Panther XP pads and he said "You can modulate the ABS on and off (as much or little as you'd like) with the twitch of a toe at 120+ mph." Grippy pads.

Yes, I have an 01 Corvetee too, and can slam it at 40mph to activate the
ABS. For some reason on the TA I have never ben able to. I have owed
4 LT1 Camaro/Firebirds and this is the only one that I can not activate
the ABS on. It stops fast if I slam it from 40mph, but I never can get it
to "tap tap tap".

I'm not sure what you are posting for. Are you just bragging that your ABS system is smooth? Or do you want to know if it is working? If the latter, just pull the ABS fuse under the hood and see if they lock up. Simple as that.

BTW, you do not want it to "tap tap tap". It should work seamlessly (in a perfect world).

Bragging? For what purpose? Weird, but anyway, I am just trying to
understand why the brakes won't lock up but at the same time
they don't tap my foot either. I'll pull the fuse as you said and
try it like that. Thanks for the info.

I'm just saying, it's an easy thing to check. You keep procrastinating and I can't figure out why. That's all.
