Default Porsche brake questions and more

I was wondering if someone could go into detail for me. I have done some research and correct me if im wrong, but I found that Prospeed (no longer made) and the Movit (over seas) kits basically use the Porsche "big red" (996tt?) calipers... which are basically brembo calipers ..

Anyway I was wondering how stoptech brakes compared to these. Does stoptech use Porsche calipers like movit does? Also does anyone know anywhere on the internet where I can get the Porsche big red calipers PN (left)996.351.430.10 and (right)996.351.429.10. Please feel free to add your own opinions on each. I would like to gather as much information as I can. Thank you for the help

AW

For the price, the Stoptech is the way to go. The Movit kit is highly overpriced. Not to take anything away from the kit, but the Stoptech kit is very competitive and if I had the money I'd get it. I have a friend who bought the Stoptech kit, and he says it's like a night and day difference between that and the LG Gstop setup he used to have.

While the StopTech kit mimics the PSM/Movit kit, there are a LOT of pad and rotor choices out there for the Porsche set up.

With Stoptech, Willwood, BAER ... you are pretty much locked into using their replacemnt parts.

You can either pay for it up front or pay for it on the back end ...

I had a Wilwood setup up until I swapped it out for a Baer Racing system. I haven't had any trouble getting different pads for either one. Hawk, EBC, and SBS make pads for most aftermarket calipers with most of their compounds to choose from. If you opt for the two-piece rotors then you are stuck with whatever company you originally chose, but I haven't worn out an Alcon rotor yet. (I go through a lot of pads, though.) BTW, the Stop Tech system is much cheaper than the Brembo or Alcon (Baer) systems and performance is comparable.

To me the Stoptech calipers look smaller than the Porsche calipers. I was thinking about making my own set up like Mike (prospeed) did. Maybe if i saw movit's bracket setup i could fab my own

Hi guys ,
A couple of things;
There is only one Big red caliper and it was only installed on the 993 TT, 993GT2 and the 993 RS from Porsche. This caliper is very distinctive, It is a two piece 4 piston design. And it is huge when compared to the 996 TT, GT3 monoblok 4 piston design.

As for the Stoptech , I have only seen the Fbody Model, So that is all I can comment on. It is basically the same two piece 4piston caliper that is used on the rear of the 993TT, GT2 and RS Models. Iswear they bought a license from Brembo to produce this caliper , since all rebuild parts are outsourced to Brembo . Does it mean it is an inferior ? No it doesn't, Because this Caliper was used as the front caliper on the rest of the Porsche 993 models.

As for the Pad for stoptech , it uses a T1074 standard pad or a Pagid 1204 which comes in a variety of pad choices.
Some other pad manufacturers are;
HAWK
TEXTAR
JURID
MINTEX
Don't know if you can get the last three pads in the states or not.

Thanks Roy. The ultimategarage "big brake" part of the site seems to be down. Also will the movit Impala SS kit work with a f-body? or do i have to request a f-body kit through them? Thanks

There are definately a few people on here and on the fbody autocross boards that would love to hear that. I tried to hook some people up through the shop I work at. But we only work BMWs, the best price I could get was through Worldpac. I bet you could do a little better than I could.

That's a good idea. How can we look into see if that brake kit is available for our cars.

No problem man. In exchange maybe I'll PM and ask for some tips I may need when I throw my LG suspension setup in the car. I bought everything except for lower A arms for the front.

How's work on the new track car going?
