Default New Autozone rotors, have them surfaced before installing?

I just bought some new AZ rotors for the front but was wondering if I should have them cut before installing or just throw them in there? They are going with new Raybestos Quiet Stop pads, BTW. Thanks!

I can't see any reason you should resurface brand new rotors. Just make sure to wipe them down real good with some brake cleaner to get the grease from the package off.

I have the same rotors and I didn't have them resurfaced. They are pretty good rotors they have held up better than the stockers

Cut them. Out of 4 AZ rotors, 3 of mine were out of spec. 1 was .12 out of spec.

That's exactly the thing I was worried about... I think I will have them cut just to be sure. Thanks for the info!

Before you cut them just mic them out to see if they are in spec then clean them in warm soap and water brake cleaner won't remove all the film on the rotor.

The runout is what I'm worried about. I'll have to see if we have a dial indicator at work...

I was swapping rotors once and a guy told me that new rotors can warp just while sitting on the shelf before shipping. I don't know though. Have them checked before I would think. They're gonna warp anyway so I say just slap them on.

We don't have a dial indicator at work, but we do have a digital height gauge. It's basically a dial indicator but larger and much more accurate. I am going to do the front brakes at lunch today and measure runout before mounting everything back up. I'll let you guys know how it turns out, but it sounds like it's going to be hit and miss on getting good new rotors.

That is true. It happens if they were stacked wrong. Just check for runnout and scuff the surface. If there is any run out take them back and get new ones. They should swap them.

Well, I checked them out and they were fine. I only did the front brakes today, but still ended up having one frozen slider pin on each side. I was able to get one out myself, but had to walk the other one over to a local shop that had a torch so they could get it out for me. Both of the pins cleaned up OK and I re-used them with fresh grease. I also found that the dust boots on one of the caliper pistons was trashed, so I'll be taking it off again soon to rebuild it.

I'll report back what I think about the setup after I do the rears this weekend and get a chance to break them in and drive it a little bit. This will be with Autozone rotors in the front, re-surfaced stockers in the rear, and Raybestos Quiet Stop pads all around.
