Be careful about saying always or never. "Any" set of ceremic pads is not correct. Carbotech pads are ceremic, they typically dust like mad and have been known to squeak very loudly. What you meant was "any set of napa/parts store cheapie ceremic pads" (Carbotechs are $150 for front pads...give or take $15 depending on compound....at least for the race pads. That's why I say "cheapie").

I guess I see why some guys react with sarcasm, you want a fresh conversation. I just jumped in since I was in need of an education myself. Glad you summed this up and replied Absolut, cause the chrome thing threw me for a loop. I am waiting for CarboTech to reply to me about a rotor/pad pricing, I do want to know about the cryo. There is a vendor close to me that can Cryo anything.

I just removed my brakes completely and made a big hole in the driver floorboard to stop Flinstones-style. What a weight savings, I musta pulled 100 lbs off the car and reduced the wheel rotating mass bigtime !!

On a more serious note...

I went with EBC chamfered/slotted rotors and GreenStuff pads back when QTP had them on GP. They look nice behind the 30th rims.

Next time I need new rotors/pads I'll probably do the AutoZone rotors with stock GM pads from GMPartsDirect.

You should never mill the slots clear off of the side of the rotor. That creates a stress point where cracks can and usually (eventually) will form (unless you are really easy on brakes).

I just got a wilwood based brake kit from a friend. The rotors he had (that I now have) are cryo treated. I'll finish abusing them and report what I find.

I tried some cross drilled/slotted rotors and high performance pads before and my cars braking ability went to ****! All crap IMO! Unless you go with Eradispeeds or Baer's. Even then I have heard of people's High performance stuff being sub-par in some cases. So I replaced them with OEM pads and rotors from Advance Auto parts. They work fine and you know what the rotors have a lifetime warranty too! So every year or so when they go bad I just take them back and get new ones!
