Default Manual steering rack

Anyone know if there is any vehicle I could get a manual rack out of that would fit my 96 TA? I like Madman's rack, but that is just too much money
for the weight savings. I have heard of guys using a Pinto rack, but I am not
sure if it was for an F-body.

Madman's rack uses a Pinto rack too. He welds the mounts on and provides the hardware for the bumpsteer kit.

F.J. Smith makes a rack kit too using a Wilwood unit.

Do you know anyone running the F. J. Smith unit? So Madman uses to Pinto rack? Interesting.

You can buy a pinto manual rack from Jegs for $199.99, then you will need 2 ujoints at $69.99 each, and a piece of "D" stock which you can only buy in 18" piece $49.00.
The you will need to make tierod sleeves and buy heim joints $50.00. You will need a bumpsteer kit which will run somewhere around $150.00. After you buy all the parts you need a way to mount the rack to the k-member.

The rack I sell comes with all of the above .

Your rack is a great piece. My friend Stefan runs it in his 9 second TA and loves it. According to what you have below it is a pricey swap piecing it together. I like your setup. Do you sell it cheaper directly than I can get it from the wholesalers? If so, it might be worth getting. My car is a somewhat daily driven car. It is not an all-out racer. I have done lots of other weight reduction mods and want to keep going. Does your rack come with all new tie rod ends, inner and outer? What about at slower speeds on the road, will it be managable, turning the car from side to side? One other reason I am looking at the swap as my next weight reduction mod is that my steering is sloppy, evn though the car has only 60k miles on it. There is lots of play in the steering wheel side to side. If your rack comes with new tie rods, will this solve my problem? How much weight will this swap actually save? Is the rack itself lighter, or is the weight savings solely due to lack of a PW steering pump and reservoir? Sorry for all the questions, but you have me interested.

Oh, I forgot to add that I have the BMR K-member on my car. Does your system fit this model of K-member since it is set up for the stock steering rack?

My kit comes with everything you need to install it. The tierods are included. It will fit your k-member. The steering is easier than a looped power rack.

Damn straight it is!

<--another satisfied customer!!

The stocker is like a 12:1 ratio, whereas the Pinto is more like an 18:1. With skinnies on the front, the car turns VERY easy. If you're running full-size wheels, you don't want a manual rack.

I am running the stock 275's on the street and at the track. It would be a major pain turning with these tires and the manual rack?

Not if you're He-Man. I wouldn't want to try it. I haven't run a full size tire up front in 5 years, so a manual rack was an easy decision for me.

Thanks for the info. How do older cars steer well with manual racks? I have never owned a car that had manual steering. I have a 68' Camaro and even it has factory pw steering.

Is it absolutely necessary to use a bump steer kit?
What is the worst that could happen?
Thanks

No it is not absolutely necessary to run a bumpsteer kit.. I bought my rack from Summit. Its a flaming river ($225).. Then I bought the tie rod end kit from Anthony Jones Eng. ($120) and then bought the steering shaft ujoint kit from Madman/JBZ for $140.. And had to buy a mount from Chassis Eng. for $50 bucks.. That is all you really need in my opinion.
